Remarks

Academically, my college can be considered amonst the best in the country. Where it lacks is in terms of hygienic food. The college management as well as the alumni are very helpful and try to solve our problems in every way possible but at the same time they are strict which can be considered good.

Entrance Preview

I took MH-CET i.e. the common entrance test in which I scored 181 out of 200 and my state rank was 196. I opted for my college because it is the second best college in the state. We are supposed to fill a preference form and I put my college on the second number on the list.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The college curriculum is tedious but is manaheable. The course is for 5 and half years. The first year constitute anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. These three subjects form the base of the further education. 2nd year constitute pathology, pharmacology, microbiology and forensic medicine and is of 1 and half year3rd year constitutes preventive and social medicine, ophthalmology and ENT.The final year has medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology. The faculty for every year is extremely good and cooperative. They realise that the foundation is very important and take extra care during our first year. This all comes at the cost of strictness.

Internships Opportunities

College internship experience is memorable. Internship is of one year and it includes posting in every clinical department of the institute. That way we as budding general practitioners can learn a bit of everything which will be important in our clinical practice. The downside being that internship is very heavy, long hours and sleepless nights but is worth it. The stipend is pretty less is about 5800 rupees per month.

Placement Experience

3.5

Every student as a rule has to work as a medical officer for an year in the institute in the department of his choice and he is given a payment of about 50, 000 rupees for the same. You can also pursue higher studies and specialise in a particular field. Specialisation opens a wide range of opportunities. You can continue to work in the government setup or join a private hospital. The placement is not a issue as thwre is always a deficit of doctors in the country.

College Events

4

The events are as follows: 1) Aarambh: this is a intercollegiate cultural extravaganza. it constitutes wide range of competitions from singing and dancing to street plays. Many colleges all over the country join us in this event and enjoy sportily. 2) Shravansari: This is an intra collegiate marathi festival. This is a way for bonding between various batches. This evwnt helps us in developing interpersonal relationship amongst our colleagues and students from different batches. 3) Mahayuddh: No college's events are complete without a sport event. Indoor sports like table tennis and chess to outdoor sports like cricket and football. A week full of fun between different colleges in the state.

Fee Structure And Facilities

1) Tuition fees : 67, 900/year 2) Hostel fees : 4, 000/year 3) Admission fees : 5, 0004) Library and security deposit : 4, 000/yearThere is increment of 7% in the fees every year. As you can see the tuition fees is expensive but the hostel and other fees are affordable.

Fees and Financial Aid

The reservation category gets the full benefit in terms of their entirw fees being paid by the government. The college doesn't provide scholarships to open category but there are other foundations like dorabji tata trust and narrottam sekhsaria foundation which provide us on the basis of merit. I have received scholarships from this foundations evwry year. This in a way is good because you work hard to get these scolarships and which helps in your post graduate entrance test.

Campus Life

4

The campus is very small situated in the vicinity of the hospital. There are no places to hang out. The college environment is specifically built for studies. The gender ratio is equal. There are many workshops held related to the field of medicine and surgery. The college students and its faculty doesn't discriminate on the basis of religion, caste or economic status.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I would rate the hostel facilities as average. In first we had to share the room with 4 people and every year, the facilities get better such that by the time we reach final year, we live in a single room. What I love about my hostel is its location. Its located at haji ali pretty close to the sea and mahalaxmi racecourse. The food is below average. A layman would find our canteen unhygienic but we dont have a choice.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students can be considered as our guide and mentors in our college. They help us in adjusting to the new environment. Especially for the people who live in the hostel, thanks to the seniors and the alumni that we dont get homesick often. There is extremely good rapo amonst senior and juniors unlike other colleges. No ragging takes place.

Exam Structure

Exams are very hectic. Every single student prepares for the examination for months together. All the departments are very strict when it comes to examination. There is monthly end of the postings examination. Then there is 6 monthly terminal and preliminary examination. All these are followed by end of the year university examination which decides your fate.

Curriculum is highly planned and very vast. Regular revision is necessary to caver all subjects. All subjects are taught with high practical basis hence ensuring exposure and preparing for real life exposure. Teaching could be more consise and logic based. Main exams are every 2 to 3 months with difficulty slightly higher in term 2 than term 1.
