College management was very cooperative and manage a friendly and healthy environment.
Entrance Preview
I took GATE 2008 98.26 percentile and interview at the CRNTS department. I chose the nanotechnology course as there was a project on cancer nanotechnology based on my post-graduation background.
Course Curriculum Overview
More research-oriented courses are necessary especially related to the Ph.D. thesis of an individual. However, we had the freedom to choose the course from the different departments which I think was the best thing to have good knowledge of the subject a which we like. Research-oriented courses were always taken after consulting our Ph.D. guide. A total of 36 credits for science Ph.D. students and 16 credits for M.Tech finished Ph.D. students had to undertake.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, Stipend depends on the project and faculty. I did my Ph.D. so I don't have much idea about the internship. But some of the students were selected as interns for foreign universities.
Placement Experience
A lot of opportunity in the area of engineering fields but too less for basic science research fellows. Only B.Tech students were offered good packages more than 10 lakhs per year followed by Mtechs. Ph.D. from engineering backgrounds like material science and electrical were offered R&D positions in companies.
College Events
Mood Indigo is India's biggest cult festival followed by Techfest, theatre fest, Surbahar music festival. Apart from that were general championship department-wise. Every week there were many events like movies, sports events, art festivals that always made us feel great.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Feasible as fees were around 23k for 6 months. The tuition fee was 5k. Another fee around 7k including hostel subsidy. Mess food amount was 11k for 6 months. Every year fee structure renewal happens. Hostel rent and bus fees were also included in the whole amount. The bus fee was about 800 per semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loan faculties were provided by IIT alumni through Canara bank. Scholarships were offered based on merit. I received an MHRD fellowship of 18k per month.
Campus Life
Very beautiful green campus. The gender ratio was 5:1 approx boys, girls. Institute is maintained well by students rather than institute staff like in other universities. All cultural and sports activities were held regularly. I didn't see any sexual or ethnic or religion-based bias
Hostel Facilities
Individual rooms for Ph.D. students or shared basis. Cleaning used to be done regularly on weekends by specific authorities. Mess facility is very good around 100 Rs per day. All kinds of sports equipment were available. Laundry and TV and newspapers were available always.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, they were always helpful. They provide monetary help to poor brilliant students and also provide funds for research and cultural or technical activities.
Exam Structure
It was not that hectic for Ph.D. students who were more focused on research activities. However, the teaching assistantship was a little hectic as we had to do a TA ship of 8 hours per week till we get paid as a stipend. Otherwise, it was chilling days on weekends. There were mid-semester and final exams every 6 months.
Faculty
Faculties are well qualified in terms of degree but research quality must be assessed to improve the quality of research. Almost all of the faculties were foreign in return with a degree from Good universities. Most of the faculties were research-oriented.
