Course Curriculum Overview
The duration of the course is 3 years in which the main focus is on the medical conditions which effects infants, children, young people, etc. The subjects of study include skin diseases, psychological disorders, ENT, neurological disorders, development and growth, social issues, (children with special needs), CNS, Liver disease, respiratory problems, critical and emergency care, infections and eye diseases, genetics, etc. The objective is to impart necessary knowledge to the students so that they can deal with all the pediatric diseases and can provide comprehensive care for small children below the age of 12 who might have long term chronic cases of ailments.
Placement Experience
The top recruiting companies that came during my time were Columbia Asia hospital, Apollo children hospital, Indraprastha, Christian medical hospital, AIIMS, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and the highest salary offered was around 12 LPA for the post of pediatrician etc. The other roles that were offered were critical care pediatrician, Neon-apology doctor, assistant professor in Pediatrics. Internships were offered in areas of health care units, child care units, family welfare community etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees for 1 year is around 38,267 Rs. Book Bank fees of 1500 is to be paid every year. A caution deposit amount of 5000 is paid at the start of the semester. Study tour fee for community and pharmacy and rupees 2000 is also paid in the first year itself. Library and departmental fees of 1500 and 2250 respectively is also included in the total fees.
Campus Life
Workshops on topics such as Immunology, various skin and eye diseases, developmental and behavioral disorders, social pediatrics, adolescent health etc are held every week so that the students can get a practical exposure to excel in the field of child healthcare. Debate competitions and theater drama is held once in a year so that the students can express their thoughts on emergent topics such as health care communities, chronic diseases, family welfare, child psychology. National festivals such as Diwali, Holi, Gandhi Jayanti, Independence day etc are also celebrated at our college. Many outdoor and indoor inter-college tournaments are also held so that the students can showcase their respective colleges and universities at state or national levels.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms are big and spacious and are available only on the rules which is setup by the college. The hostel rent is around 500 per month and another 500 is to be paid if a student opt for an internship period in his/her course. Other facilities include hot water bath, Library, medical facilities for emergency situations, 24 hour electricity and water supply, WiFi facility, etc. Security guards are also provided inside the college campus for the safety of the students. The mess food is also very good and dishes are prepared according to the time table of the student college council.
Admission
The students who wanted to apply for this post graduate course need to have at least 50% marks in 12th standard. Other than that, the student must have passed the B.H.M.S degree and should have completed 1 year of rotational internship. You can apply online for the course in the college website and the selection procedure will be based on the NEET-PG examinations which is conducted by the NBE. A total of 36 seats are available for admission in M.D. course in which 2 seats are reserved for foreign nationals. As per your rank, a merit list will be prepared and you will be called for a counselling session conducted by Medical Counselling Community and granted admission.
Faculty
The teachers of our college are very helpful and supportive and their main aim is to provide students with paramedical and medical education so that they can undergo a holistic training with practical and theoretical skills. Case studies and assignments are also given on topics like nutrition advise for (children, new born babies, infants) etc. So that we learn to provide special and basic care to small children below 15 years of age.
