My Journey as an Engineer with IITPKD

My experience at IITPKD was undoubtedly the best one. The B.Tech program offered by the college gave me a comprehensive analytical idea of the stream with a huge emphasis of both fundamentals and applications. We were always encouraged by the faculty to work on multidisciplinary projects and had an adaptable curriculum. We were also allowed to choose electives even from other courses to whet our capabilities. We were showered with a lot of enthusiasm and facilities to do internships in both academic and industrial grounds to polish up our skills and get an exposure to current research. Some really bright and hardworking students from our batch were given the option of finishing their final year project at Auckland University of Technology and there were opportunities to conduct industry-oriented projects as well. We had a flexible schedule in which we had a broad gateway to knowledge and also had time to quench our thirst of knowing more.

The Career Development Centre of IITPKD is an unbiased corner that provides its students with a great career opportunity and is very supportive and aims for giving the right career opportunity to us based on our capabilities. They put in all their efforts to gift us with a fruitful future. They always aspire to achieve the best possible placement outcomes.

The general fees structure for the B.Tech program of four years in IITPKD is 2.12 lakhs, 2.07 lakhs, 2.07 lakhs, 2.07 lakhs for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th year respectively, with a total of 8.34 Lakhs. The fees structure is a feasible one as it is a very nigger amount compared to the facilities and dedication it offered to us.

Girls were always given utmost security. We were offered counselling and lessons on sexual orientation irrespective of our religion, race, caste or creed. We were all independent as students within the campus. Extracurricular activities as that of sports were always encouraged. Cricket, badminton and basketball are some of the popular sports that we used to play during our four years stay. The library of IITPKD is extraordinary with a huge collection of books from different genres. I personally used to spend a lot of time there searching for more information to know my subject with a greater depth.

IITPKD is fully residential with different hostels for both boys and girls. The boys hostel has a seat of 700 whereas the girls hostel had a seat of 164. The rooms were for twin-sharing and had well developed sanitation. We were also provided with counselling services and healthcare. We had sports as well as gym facilities and recreation was always supported all through our stay.

The alumni network of IITPKD is a huge and extensive one. Talking about the seniors, they were very helpful and interactive since the first day. They were always the first one whom we reached for help and they always supported us without any hesitation. They always encouraged us and made it easier for us to get accustomed to the campus environment within a really short duration.

The admission procedure of IITPKD is a very systematic one. It is solely based on the rank obtained in the All India JEE Advanced Entrance Exam. Students getting an aggregate of 75% in 10+2 examination from a recognised board and qualifying for JEE Mains with the declared cut off marks are permitted for the JEE Advanced Examination. After the declaration of results, there was a document verification process followed by 6 rounds of counselling were conducted for the seat allotment and upliftment of the qualified candidates. The closing rank for Mechanical Engineering in my year of admission was 7381, for the general category. Computer Science and Engineering was always my first preference but as my rank was 7034, Mechanical Engineering was the best that I could opt for.

The faculty consists of 17 members and 7 staff-members engaged in both teaching and research. Each and every member undertakes different topics of interest that fall under the course. We were guided and advised by every member to overcome the hurdles that we faced or were about to face in the future. They were the best support system we could've asked for. All of them are highly qualified and educated researchers in the concerned field with a lot of achievements as that of Sudarshan Memorial Prize. In spite of their eminent qualifications all of them were down to earth and very interactive with all of us. They were all full of enthusiasm and worked hard for us to know more about the particular course, with a lot of depth.
