Experiencing surgery student life in MGM

My course was hectic as you would expect from a general surgery course. It lasted for 3 years, with 6 semesters. The course was practicals based so we learned everything by applying them. Our course was very hands on and was amended to reach a high standard.

We didn't get placement companies per say, but we always had the option of applying to the MGM hospital or even apply to any other hospital. We did collaborations with general surgery department & Om surgicals. We also had endoscopic training with Johnson & johnson. The college itself provided us with the experience to find job opportunities.

Our course fees was reasonable with 30 Lacs per annum. It was an advanced course so i didn't mind the fees structure. We got a lot of experience working in a hospital with more than qualified people teaching us. I felt the course fees was practical for a medical course.

Some classmates of mine had received scholarships from the college. They had a minimum marks that was necessary and they were in a ecnomically weaker section. Some students also recieved national scholarships.

We had students council who arranged programs and activities as well as events like annual fests. Mostly we had seminars and gender sensitization activities. We also had workshops and training programs like Surgical Safety Check-List Training. We also had many campaigns and blood donation drives as well as many guest lecturers giving a class.

My hostel was quite feasible with well-equipped and well furnished rooms with space. We had 24/7 security and recreational halls as well as visitors halls. We had laundry room and a big mess with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

I had just finished my internship for my MBBS, I had decided to choose a specialty in general surgery. I wrote the PG NEET entrance exam and got 650 marks. I applied to the university and got a callback. It was a very straightforward experience.

Our professors and the doctors we were placed under were highly trained and qualified. They knew and understood the ardousness of the course. They made sure we were not too overwhelmed but also made sure received appropriate training to make us into good doctors and surgeons.
