Remarks
Good, Infrastructure, Good place to pursue your interests, Great Peers. Bad - Administration and Security of the institute needs a lot of improvement, Very weak alumni network.
Entrance Preview
AIEEE, 172 Marks, 20393 Rank. It was my 19th Option as I found out that its a decent college and I could get it on my rank. I got it in the first counselling and then decided to take it. One more reason was that it was very close to my hometown.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was balanced and I liked it. Although it could have been better if we had more programming courses in the initial years. The subjects that I personally liked were Data Structures, Database Management System and Design and Analysis of Algorithms. Later in the final and pre-final years we had a large set of electives to chose from. There I picked Subjects related to Machine Learning as my electives due to my interest. There are advanced subject in each field as electives.
Internships Opportunities
I did my internship before the start of my final year in WNS Global Services. I got it from campus. It was decent Internship with work on Machine Learning. During that year 5 companies visited for internship in our college. WNS, Frrole, Loginext, Directi and Belzabar. All are good companies with decent stipend. The average stipend offer by the companies is 18K.
Placement Experience
Placements at out institute was good for IPG - MTech. Out of around 70 eligible students 65 got placed. List of companies that visited our institute during my placement season with their CTCs-1, Flipkart - 152, Amazon - 293, Snapdeal - 124, Directi - 265, WorksAp - 31.56, Sokrati - 67, Frrole - 108, Infoedge - 69, TCS - 3.310, Infosys - 3.3.
College Events
Infotsav - The techno-managerial event - Sept or Oct.There are around 25-30 events that contains quizzes, coding event, software development, B-Plan contest, Case studies etc. Participation in the events are decent but the participation in the workshop is almost nil. Very few people come for workshops. Aurora - Cultural Event - Feb or March. Around 20-30 events that contains singing, dancing, skit, mime, art-mela etc. It experiences a great footfall with the maximum on Pro-nite. Artists like Kunal ganjawala, Neeraj shridar, benny dayal etc. has come to aurora. Other events like Corna - Rock band competition and Parivesh - Fashion are also loved by the students.Urja and Twaran - Sports Fest - Jan. Urja is the intra IIITM contest where the whole college is divided into houses and they compete with each other for the Cup. And Twaran is inter IIIT competition where all the IIITs participate to get hold of the Twaran cup.
Fee Structure And Facilities
During my stay our fee structure changed once. For first 8 sem the fee structure(per semester) was like -Tution fees - 28700, Mess - 6000, Hostel - 6000. Then In the final year the mess fees increased to 9000. It was not very high compared to the private colleges and it was decent.
Fees and Financial Aid
I didn't take any loan or got any scholarship. But during the time of admission the institute informed us about how we can get the loan from the Bank of India branch in our campus.
Campus Life
I had great time in IIITM. So I liked the campus life. I was part of the Students' forum at the institute which conducts different literary, technical and management events in the institute. So from my experience students were exposed to the literary and managerial events by different forum and student activities. Also the Sports complex at the institute was pretty good. Labs were also fine, some times we faced problems, but overall in the 5 years labs were pretty satisfactory for me. For music and arts there was no club, but as our strength was pretty low very few people showed interests in making a club. Overall campus life was satisfactory.
Alumni/Alumna
Institute is trying to build alumni network. Students that are currently in the institute are taking care of Linkedin groups, facebook groups that has all the students of the institute. But there is very little contribution from the administration. Only hon. Director seems interested in the network, no one else shows any interest. Talks are still going on regarding Alumni card for alums. But it doesn't exist right now due to which its tough to get inside the institute once you pass out. So right now there is no good alumni network but people are making efforts to have it.
Exam Structure
Exam structure - In one sem we had 2 minors and 1 major. During minors we had two papers in a day 1 hour each. In Majors we have 1 paper with few days gap. Personally I found the exam structure chilled.
Faculty
All the professors at IIITM are Phd. from IITs and have good knowledge in their field. But its hard to find their class interesting. Few faculty members are great to learn from. I personally liked Dr. J. Dhar prof. Engineering Mathematics and Dr. Aditya Trivedi, prof. Wireless Communications. Some faculty rely on their Phd. Scholars to come and teach in the class. Some just read out presentations and try to teach from them as much as possible. Interest in a faculty is also dependent on the student's interest in a subject. But overall the faculty is good but just need to make their classes interesting.
