Remarks
The college is one of the prestigious college of India and is of national importance. With the wide options of courses to pursue, it is one of the best college of the country.
Entrance Preview
JEE Advance 2014, as per my rank this was the best suited branch for me as ISM is known world wide for it's earth science related branches.
Course Curriculum Overview
The first year is common for all branches. Thereafter the syllabus divides as per the branch. You get to study about air pollution, waste water treatment, hydraulics, mechanics, microbiology, GIS mapping, remote sensing and the options to select minor of your choice.
Internships Opportunities
For branches like CSE, there are many companies visiting the campus and providing internships. For instance, amazon, flipkart, Goldman Sachs and many other companies took student from CSE branch at an average offered stipend of 10k. While for earth science branches, the T&P are enough to create internship opportunities for the students.
Placement Experience
Placement is fine enough I would say. With the conversion of ISM into IIT, many companies who were not registered before are registering themselves for campus placement. Amazon took students with CTC of 27 lakhs per annum. CIL is one of the major recruiter of ISM. This year 73 students were placed with CTC of 9.03 lakhs per annum. Nearly, 80% of the eligible students get easily placed in the campus.
College Events
Numerous events are celebrated throughout the year. 'Concetto' the tech fest of ISM is largely accepted by the 1st year students where they show their technical skills, making robots, planes and many other programmes organised by each department. Night marks the celebration either by famous DJ night or some famous band rocking the campus. In addition we have 'srijan' the cultural fest of ISM which is the biggest fest of ISM. Big personalities are invited to mark the fest a huge success. Wealso have sports fest 'pratibimb', alumni meet 'basant' and like wise numerous others.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fees is quite nominal as it is a government college run by central government. Though the fees each year varies but on an average it cost around 4-5 lakh to study a 4 year undergraduate course along with mess fees. Hostel is free for the students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since it is one of the most reputed college of india, banks easily give loans to the students. Apart, for those whose parent's salary is below certain limit, there are various scholarships available which they can avail.
Campus Life
Gender ratio is quite disappointing in ISM. may be because there are few branches where only males are admitted. But again, it is relatively low. There are various clubs for each and every students. Literary, dance, music, robotics, kartavya, AIESEC, toast masters and many more.ISM has a very rich ethnic and regional heritage. Every year say 30 students on approx are admitted to ISM from Afghanistan.
Hostel Facilities
Each room is shred by two students. The hostels have LAN facilities, though the wifi facility has been initiated in some hostels. 24 hours electricity facility is ensured. the condition of room is fine and is renovated each year. The mess condition is same as of all colleges. Though teh menu seems very appealing, but when it comes to taste things are quite different.
Alumni/Alumna
The seniors are really helpful and are actually the circuit breaker for us. They have been to the situation that the juniors go through and they have a better experience of getting things done smartly and efficiently.
Exam Structure
As in other IITs we too have 2 semester a year. Each semester is evaluated twice by the conduction of mid sem and end sem examination. 75% attendance is must to appear tin the exam. 35% marks is compulsory to pass the exam. Relative grading system is practiced in the institution.2-3 practicals are conducted each week. So that's quite OK.
Faculty
There are some brilliant profs specially in earth science branches. Rest branches too have very knowledgeable faculties. The student to faculty ratio is very low. That's one of the pros of the institute.
