Life in BITS Pilani

BITS Pilani is one of the premium institutes of India for engineering. This year it is ranked 20 among best engineering colleges by MHRD. College has good faculty and provide premium quality of education. Right from the first semester student are allowed to schedule their classes according to their comfort from the given list of classes and are also given the option to chose faculty for the respected course. There is no attendance policy that gives students an option to study by themselves if they are not willing to attend the classes but they have to appear for the evaluative components to pass the course. There is also flexibility to choose from a bunch of courses for electives in which they are interested. This allows students to explore other fields of education in which they are also interested. From 2nd year they can choose humanities electives and from 3rd year they can choose any disciplinary or open electives in which they are interested. It also various departments and clubs.

I was personally interested in civil engineering so I went for it. The faculty members are very educated and well known in their fields with a lot of experience. There are also well equipped labs for students to do experiment and learn about different topic. There is a lot of flexibility in courses in this colleges. By flexibility I mean choosing disciplinary courses I am interested in and not because they are offered. There are approximately ninety to hundreds of students in major departmental course which may vary in the disciplinary courses. In disciplinary courses it vary from ten to fifty students. There are also enough teaching assistants to help faculties

Students are eligible to sit for placement in their final year. A lot of companies visit campus specially IT and consultancies . Core companies visit very less. Companies ghat visited last semester are IOCL, Amazon, Xilingo, Bounce, ZS Associates , PwC

Fee hike is described well before the admission. It increases approximately 5-10% every year. There are many scholarships that are provided to eligible students but two major scholarship provided by institute are merit-cum need scholarship (MCN) and merit scholarships. MCN is provided based on income and performance in each semester(CGPA) . 40% for 8+ cgpa and 25% for less than 8

There is a lot of other things to do than studying. One can follow their passion or hobbies by joining different clubs and departments and sports team in the campus. Cultural fest, sports meet and tech fest are organised on a large scale every year.

Double rooms are provided in the first year. In the second year there are limited single rooms and from 3rd year onward single rooms are provided for every student. Adequate room sizes , courtyard to play , indoor sports room, tv with cable connection, water coolers , snacks vending machine in every hostel. Mess food are also good with option to get on-demand non-veg food daily.
