Remarks
The system of backlogs was very unfair at our time, as our Seniors, if they had any backlogs, their CGPA would be capped 2.0/4.0~60%. However, when we got admitted in college, the whole pointer structure changed for us. We had the Pointer system set to 10.0 instead of 4.0. Nothing changed for our seniors though. If they still got a backlog, their CGPA would be capped 2.0/4.0~60%. However, if we got a backlog, our CGPA would be capped to 5.0/10.0~50% which made it pretty unfair as Companies that come for Placement don't accept students with a CGPA less than 60%. Also, the backlog fees was too high. 4000rs for each subject.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course that I had chosen had amazing subjects. Geology, Drilling, Sedimentology, Engineering Mechanics, Petroleum Geology, Remote Sensing, Geomechanics, Fluid Mechanics. Everything was amazing. Definitely applicable to the real life world and it's applications. An Industrial Visit was organized. We were taken to Hyderabad to The National Remote Sensing Center to get a better understanding of GIS and it's Applications in the real world. It was an eye-opener and was really helpful. I am grateful to learn such subjects and due to it, I am at a good position today.
Placement Experience
The University had a Mock Placement Drive, in which it helped students get ready for Communication, Interviews, Technical Mocks etc. Really helpful. Helped build confidence as well. The % of Placement at my time was about 70-80%. The companies that came for my course were ESRI, Cybertech Systems and Software, Wipro, Infosys.
College Events
Had a lot of events. IGNITE was a techincal event for both Computer Science Students and Non Computer Science Students. UURJA was our annual fest. The fests were pretty big as we had an average of 4000-5000 students taking place. The annual fest UURJA took place for 2 days, consisting of Dance Events, Fashions shows, various competitions, and Performances by Celebrity Singers. IGNITE (Technical Event) took place for 3 days.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Rs.90,000 to secure a seat for any course in the University (Withdrawable). Fees are expensive. 11.5 Lacs for Tuition Fees for 4 years. All modes of payment are accepted by the college, including Credit/Debit Card, NEFT, UPI Payment. Each and every course had a different fee structure.
Fees and Financial Aid
Our University only offered Scholarships to the students who scored 95%+ in 12th and to the students who had 9.0+ CGPA in the whole College Year.
Campus Life
Gender Ratio was equal - 50/50. No such Dorm Parties. Every Hostel did have an annual party though. No Ragging at all. University is very strict when it comes to Ragging/ Discrimination against Gender and Religion. Instant Suspension/Expulsion. There is a student committee as well as a faculty committee.
Hostel Facilities
There are many Private Hostels right outside of the university. Hostels are excellent. Provide all facilities. Prices range from between 1-1.5 LPA. The price depends on the Hostel Quality. Hostels with a price range of 1.0 LPA were of below decent quality. Hostels with a range of 1.15-1.35 LPA were of average quality. Hostels with a range of 1.35-1.50 were of excellent quality.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors were very helpful. Used to get a lot of help on Minor/Major Projects. Seniors used to helo with getting resources from various online sites.
Admission
I opted this course as I was interested in the Oil and Gas field, and GIS plays an important role in the discovery of Oil and Gas. Since the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies is one of the best Universities in the South Asia Regions to offer Oil and Gas Courses, hence I opted for this College. I gave the Entrance Exam (UPESEAT) and cleared it. Admission date was July 21, 2015. We had to first attended a Convection from the college first to get better insights on each and every course that the University had to offer. Then, we had to choose the course that we were interested in, and we got called up Rank wise to complete the Admission process. Of course, each and every course had a specific number of seats and got filled uo with each and every Rank passing by.
Faculty
I had about 20 Professors in my 4 year course. All of them had PHDs. All were well experienced. Average age of the professors was about 35-40. Some of the professors were amazing, they taught with passion and Integrity. However, some of the professors were very lazy, and they really didn't care whether a student is learning or not. They just used to read material from PPTs without explaining them.
