Remarks
Technically the college is sound in academic aspects, but the infrastructure needs to be updated. The labs needs to be upgraded. There is a scarcity for hostel facility inside the campus, especially for girls. Now the management is planning to build a 1400 room hostel for girls.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum for Ph.D is research-oriented. One have to complete 12 credits as a part of curriculum. Securing a job depends on one's talent i.e depends on acquiring the knowledge, which automatically makes one confident for interviews. The curriculum for masters is very good enough compared to other institutes for securing an on-campus placement. Yes, industrial visits will be organized for all levels of students.
Placement Experience
Me being from the Water Resources Engineering specialisation, I can list out the companies that visited the campus for their placement drives. Companies are Atkins, L&T, Aarvee Associates, other construction companies, and many colleges (for faculty positions). Tentative percentage of placements varies, and is not fixed. There will be a placement cell, where it will be managed by students only for getting those companies to college. The shortlisting of students will be done based on companies placement rules and regulations.
College Events
Technical fest: TECHNOZION. Takes place in October of every year. Management fest: CURA. Takes place in February of every year. Cultural fest: SPRINGSPREE. Takes place in March of every year. Students from all over India will come to participate in these fests.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is expensive. The fee structure will be finalized by MHRD. The other fee to be paid every year is increasing year after year. The college provide transparency in the fee-breakdown, but it is too expensive for masters and bachelors students.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have opted for education loan during my masters. There was a SBI bank near to college which offered education loan, where a student has to submit the proofs of allotment order, identity card, and hostel room allotment receipt. The loan will be released based on semester tuition fee only and not for hostel rent.
Campus Life
The campus life is good. There will be movies played in the auditorium, and many cultural events takes place inside the campus. The diversity of students is very vast. There will be students from every corner of India. Even there are many international students, mostly from under-developed countries. There is a good maintenance of gender ratio. Politics are everywhere.
Hostel Facilities
For bachelors the rooms will be on sharing basis- 2 to 3 per room, and for masters 2 per room in 1st year, and 1 per room in 2nd year. For Ph.D students it is one per room. The hostel has the following facilities: water, power, Lan, and maintenance. Mess is mandatory for those who stay in hostels.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni have settled in a good position. Many of them are working with government and MNCs. I haven't had any interaction with alumni.
Admission
I am working as a research scholar in Water Resources Engineering, Civil Engineering Department. The process for getting selected as a research scholar is to go through the interview process which will be conducted 2 times a year - July and November. The reason for choosing this college is that this college lies in the list of top 3 NITs, and also I did my PG from the same college. After you PG, you need to apply for Ph.D in the institute website. Once you get shortlisted, you need to go through the written examination and then an interview. Results will be notified in the institute website within 15 days of interview.
Faculty
NITW has highest number of faculty. There are many number of professors. The faculty are very strong in the subject. They are the best. Most of the faculty have elevant industry-experience and have MOU's signed with many industries and government organisations.
