Remarks

This is a college of National importance. It is the second best college for technical students after IIT Guwahati. The branch I got here is also regarded as a good branch here. And the placement scenario of the college is also considerable

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is similar to that followed by the other NITs throughout the country. There is a strict 75% attendance exists here. Total 2 major tests conducted in a semester they are Mid semester and End semester exam.Mid semester contains 30 marks and end semester contains 50 marks. The rest 20 marks are carried by minor test, class tests and internals which includes assignments and marks based on class performances of the students. All of the faculties here are extremely qualified. All of them have a masters degree or PhD Scholarship from renowned universities from India and from various foreign universities too. On college website, the CVs are attached against each faculty.

Placement Experience

4

From the branches Computer Science and Electronics and Communication, there's almost 100% placement takes place. The salary goes to as high as 32 lacs. The average package hovers between 5 to 7 lacs. Many renowned Indian companies as well as MNCs take part in the campus placement. There is always more number of job offer registers against no of students. In the other branches, the placement scenario is also good. This year the Civil department couldn't stand out that much in the placement scenario. Overall, the placement scenario is very good compared to its contemporary colleges of the region

College Events

4.5

Two mainstream college fests hold in a calendar year. One of them is the technical fest and the other one is the cultural fest The technical fest is named Tecnoesis. It is 4 days spanning fest having the last day as cultural night. During all these four days, students from all over the country compete for glory in different kinds of technical contests. There are contests like ROBOWAR, ROBOSOCCER, SUMOWAR and many more with the lucrative amount prize money The cultural fest is known as Incandescence. It is a four days extravaganza of music, dance, stand up comedy, poetry and much more. The first day is called Glitteratti where the competition gets really interesting for the fashion show. A large no of students participate in the show and it happens to be a real show. The second day is NIRVANA which features popular poets from different parts of the country. The night used to be calm and beautiful amidst the soulful performance of the poets. This year, renowned poet Dr Rahat Indori has been present among the names. The third and fourth day is dedicated to music. This year, Darshan Raval was invited to entertain the crowds.Overall it is a nice experience to be present in these fests

Campus Life

3.5

There is a huge sports complex including facilities for all kinds of indoor games like table tennis, kho kho and kabaddi practice, Gymnasium and badminton court. There are two separate grounds for Football and Cricket respectively. There is streamlined wifi connectivity available throughout the college. The wifi speed is too good. In addition, all the hostels got LAN services for the boarders. In the aspects of Internet connectivity, NIT Silchar clearly stands out There is the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam research and learning centre, the second biggest digital library in Asia having access to a variety of subjects ranging from textbooks for students to research papers. There is also a central library that is not digitalized and it also got a number of books. The equipments of labs are in fine condition. They works almost all the time

Placement Experience:

Placements are not really good in our college, it is more of a research institute so it mainly focuses on PhD as PhD strength is good. Higher education is more prefered here but placement scenario is also good

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is very relevant and is different for different branches according to their needs. I was interested in civil engineering and chose the course and find the curriculum intersting and relevant for me . The curriculum offers subject which are important for real world applications, like in civil engineering it's offers subjects like building construction, solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, material testing, serving, etc. The course curriculum is very good but the teaching methods needs improvement like more digitalization . The exams frequency and timings are neither too late nor too early, they are perfectly planned and executed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There exists a good teaching staff that's why the course is very easy to understand also teachers give us good examples also do practicals so that's students understand the course easily . I see that there exist a low no of equipments in practical lab compare to it's students ratio so if they have a good no of equipments then all students get equipment to do experiment without any waste of time . Time is good as compare to marks and the first 30 marks are beginner level the other 40 marks are intermediate level and the remaining 30 Marks are advanced level questions in a question paper for the students they published.

Placement Experience:

The placement scenario is quite good, with several reputed companies like General Electric, Power Grid Corporation of India, Goldman Sachs, among others recruiting 94 percent of the students in the college. The placement takes place in three rounds, one testing one's aptitude, followed by an hour round, finally leading on to a technical round. Mock interview and job cracking sessions are organized regularly, both by the departments, and also the Training and Placement Cell, to prepare students for the interviews and examinations going forward. The Training and Placement Cell also provides internship opportunities at the end of third year for the students, based on their aptitude and abilities

Remarks:

I have mostly positive remarks about college except for the fact that the college is situated really far from mainstream north India. Train connectivity is not that strong to rest of country. But despite that the college is extremely good in the sense of learning, meeting new innovative minds, and of course placements and jobs.
