Remarks
Now the college has become an autonomous body unde MG University which had helped it become a better institution in developing the future of the country.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course was setup by IGNOU, Delhi. The curriculum was not updated as we required, but our teachers gave us the latest info and the university had made enough material available for us to be as updated as possible. Course structure was an yearly one and exams were also conducted yearly. Every subject had a similar question pattern which included a range of essays from short to long and each exam was out of 100 in which students had to score a minimum of 33 to pass. Assignments worth 100 marks also were required to be submitted for each subject and it's marks also would be added to the final scores which would be out of 200. Assignments consisted of 5 essays, each worth 20 marks. By doing this course I was able to be a person with in-depth knowledge of various subjects related to business, accounting, auditing, etc. To
Placement Experience
Placements were very fot our course and the course did not require any industrial visits. Other departments had a better placement offered when compared to our department. Around 80 percent of the students get placed every year. The institution had special training in personality development and also conducted mock interviews to prepare us better for the main interviews.
College Events
Major events were Arts day, onam celebration, Christmas celebration, alimni meet and minor departmental events on teachers' day and other occasions. Arts day was the inaugural function of the new students union or committee taking over. Normally we have any celebrity who was an alumni to come and inaugurate the occasion. Various cultural programs would be organised by different departments. Onam celebration would mainly highlight the floral carpet competition between departments. Similarly, Christmas program also has departmental competition which had Carol singing competition and crib decoration competition. Alumni meeting is conducted on the 2nd Saturday of February every year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure when compared to other similar courses or campuses, maybe a little high but it's affordable as it's not too high when compared to premium institutions. Fee payment was done yearly as the new academic year began. Payments could be made in cash or using a debit or credit card and the reciept would have a detailed description stating various heads the which the fees were allocated. Only a minimal caution deposit amount was required to be paid in the beginning to aquire admission and the same was refunded upon course completion.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
No education loan was availed by me. Regarding scholarships, it was mainly offered to students who belonged to the backward communities.
Campus Life
I consider the 3 years I spent in the campus as a period in my life I would never get back. Even though our class had a majority of girls, it didn't make the class any weaker as the bond between each of us increased over the 3 years we spent in the campus. Recreational activities, seminars, talks and debates regarding current issues were always held to develop students and keep them updated on recent events and current trends.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has a great alumni and we meet every 2nd Saturday in the month of February. College alumni can be found in various high positions in social, political and economic scenario.
Admission
Commerce was my first option so as to reach my career goals as a management professional. This college has a great reputation and heritage and it is one of the best in the district of Ernakulam. Also proximity from home was considered. Basic admission criteria was to score 60% and above on 12th. Then applications were invited, interview was setup with the principal and finally admission was granted if we had the requirements fulfilled. The whole process took about 2 weeks from submission of application. There was no capitation fee or any other kind of donations required.
Faculty
We had the best faculities teaching us. Their average age would be between 35 and 39 years. There would be a head of the department under whom we had another 5 permanant faculty and 2 guest faculty. Faculties were well versed in their subjects and could handle the subject well enought to equip the students to use the knowledge attained in their daily lives. The faculty were also qualified with post graduation and industrial experience which benefitted the students as they could teach from their experience.
