BITSAT. 290/450. Alot of seniors were in BITS and had amazing experiences about their college life. It was an open atmosphere, and 0% attendance seemed to advocate the fact, that BITS makes you take charge of your own education. BITSAT is the first Engineering entrance exam to be held online without an technical glitches. The process was very smooth
Course Curriculum Overview
The courses were well structured. Mine was a dual degree, so it was a 5-year course. We had to complete 6 electives. I am from the last batch of the old curriculum. Most of the first two years' courses were common in the old curriculum. I did electives in Journalism, DSP, Medical Instrumentation, Physics of semiconductor devices and Image Processing.
Internships Opportunities
I had one full year of internship at Healthcare Technology Innovation Centre IIT-Madras. I had a stipend of Rs.10,000/- . The general/average stipend is defnitely higher(close to Rs.20000/-) I had the most amazing learning experience during that one year.
College Events
Waves(cultural) is one of the biggest college cultural festivals in the country. We have had some internationally acclaimed musicians headlining at waves. We have atleast a thousand students visiting our campus over the three days.
Fee Structure And Facilities
BITS being a private university is abit expensive. We had Rs.15,000/- as admission fees. We had Rs.50,000/- per semester for the first two years. We then had Rs.60,000/- for the remaining three years.
Fees and Financial Aid
The institute does have a merit-cum-need scholarship. I did not avail of these, since my tuition fees were already covered by the state government scholarship.
Campus Life
Campus life is very active. Gender ratios is definitely better than IITs and NITs. Extra-curricular activities including sports of several sorts, debates, technical clubs, festival organising departments etc. We also have an inter-hostel festival that happens at the beginning of the year(September typically). Workshops happen periodically, but are mostly present during festivals. There are never any issues related to race, religion or economic status.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is very active. BITSian day is celebrated annually in several cities across India and in certain places in the USA and Europe. Some cities have very active alumni groups that meet every month and organise meetings and outings.
