Remarks

This is one of the best college of India, continuing its legacy since 1926.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

In CSE we have a well planned course curriculum having all the industry as well as research oriented subjects. The overall program is well divided into 8 semesters out of which the first two semesters are common. It means that in the first two semesters the classes are not divided on the basis of branch, but from third semester onwards classes will be held on basis of branch.Talking about the learning process, then here you have to learn everything on your own. The professors will provide the lecture plan and notes but you need to learn everything either from book or from online resources.Internship and placement scenario are pretty good here. Especially considering the branch, i.e CSE the placement is almost 100%. For branches like mining and chemical Engineering, regular industry visits are organised.

Placement Experience

4.5

Since, this is an IIT the placement and internship scenario are pretty good compared to other colleges. The average package is 7 lpa. Talking about my branch, ie CSE the average package is 11-12 lpa, with above 95% placement. Companies like Microsoft, GoldmanSacs,SalesForces etc visit the campus on regular basis for hiring. There is also plenty of internship opportunities from second year onwards. Microsoft and Uber provides internship opportunity to students of second year also.

College Events

4.5

The events held in college can be broadly classified into three category, namely sports, technical and cultural. Annual sports event is known a Prakram, technical event is known as Concetto and cultural event is known as Srijan.Srijan is the lagest cultural event in north eastern region. In all these events, participants from all across India participate.

Fee Structure And Facilities

In my program,ie CSE the tution fee per semester is 1 lakh rupee.Apart from this we have to pay a nominal fee of 30 thousands for availing mess and hostel facilities.Apart from this there is no additional charges. The college accepts online net baking, cheque and E-challan methods of payment.Since we have 8 semesters, so the total fees of entire curriculum is around 10 lakhs rupees.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

No, I have not opted for any scholarship or education loan. However for students having annual income less than 1 LPA, there is a provision of full tution fee wavier. For families having annual income less than 5 LPA there is two-third fee waivier in tution fee.Apart from this MCM scholarship is also provided for families having annual income less than 6 LPA.

Campus Life

4

Here, the gender ratio is quiet unbalanced. The gender ratio is 1:10, ie for every 10 boys there is only one girl. However, this ratio might improve in future due to the 17% reservation policy introduced by the government. We have student Gymkhana who take care of all the needs of student, and put forward out demands and opinion to the administration. We also have various clubs such as art club known as Artfreaks, two dance societies known as LITM ans WTC, literary and debating clubs known as Chainika Sangh, dramatics club known as Abhay Dramatics Academy and a music club as well, known as Manthan. All these clubs are extremely active and have bagged various positions and prizes in Inter IIT as well as various other platforms. For sports activities, we have SAC, which also includes swimming pool, gym, badminton court, vollyball court, two big grounds, table tennis roometc. We also habe Robotics club.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Yes, I have opted for hostel facility. The hostel facilities are extremely good and proper hygiene is maintained by the workers. The hostel rooms are quiet big and there is sharing. In one room there are 2 students. For one semester we have to pay 30000 rupees which includes hostel as well as mess facilities.

Alumni/Alumna

All the alumni and seniors helpful, you only need to ask them for it. From the very first day, the seniors will encourage you to pursue your dreams. They will always be ready for any emotional and moral support.

Admission

I got admission in this college through JEE Advanced in the year 2018. I opted for CSE based on my rank as well as branch preference. In order to get admission in this college, first of all we need to clear JEE Mains which is held twice in a year. It is held once in December and again in April. Based on the percentile score of JEE Mains we are qualified for JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is held around last week of May. It is a rigorous 6 hrs test with a break of 2 hrs in between. Once you have qualified JEE Advanced, then you need to sit for JOSAA counselling held in July. Based on your rank and branch preference you can select the desired IIT college for yourself.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty here are quite helping and very knowledgable. But most of them are research oriented due to which they might lack proper teaching skills. They have a vast knowledge about their field of expertise but they lack the skill to properly convey their knowledge to fellow students.During one semester, the average number of lecture for one course is 40 and we have on an average around 5 courses. All the professors as well as Assistant professors here hold atleast a Phd degree.

Remarks:

The college should improve its status. The course curriculum is quite outdated, we are still busy in C and C++. No one is focusing on emerging programming languages like Python. The exam structure is quite simple. First we have mid semester exams of 30 marks then there comes the semester exams. The semester exam question paper consist of 8 questions in which we have to answer any 5. We people are not getting the knowledge. we are just passing the exams.

College is good in sense of presence around the corporate network. Efforts is required to cope up with the academic. BIT has been known for its extend of academia. Campus is lush green but in summers water scarcity may be faced.

People who have positive experiences tend to pat themselves on the back for choosing wisely and getting their money's worth. But people who haven't had those positive experiences tend to want to put things right, and to "warn off" anyone thinking about making the same decision.

A negative aspect is that its not present in metro location and is mostly semi urban...So students do not get a lot of exposure and experience to big companies and miss on certain chances....A positive aspect is that this colleges leaves everything to students so students are made self dependent..

Remarks:

My overall experience in this college has been quite moderate till date. One of the biggest problems one will face is that the library, computer centre and the student activity centre are not operational 24/7 till date, Another problem is never ending construction work is quite nagging and the continuous motion of the heavy vehicles due to that construction throughout the campus makes the campus appear more or less like an under-construction site than a college. Good college, Equipped with moderate infrastructure, which is in a state of progress. Placements are good. Opportunities are available in different fields but you will have to grasp them without procrastination.
