BITS Pilani, a review

Life in here can be pretty chill because of the 0% attendence policy. But surprise tests keep students on their toes. Students should be prepared at all times to give a test. So it can get pretty hectic sometimes too.

The courses are well structured. They make sure we study by giving surprise tests. There is a lot of research projects we can take under different profeesors. Sometimes it's pretty chill while sometimes it's really hectic.

BITS gives a lot of internship opportunities. A good student will have at least 3 opportunities for interning in various companies all over India. BITS is known for its special "Practice School" (PS). There are two of them. PS 1 happens right after the sophomore year. While the other happens just before the graduation. There is also an internship we can get in the penultimate year.

There are 3 tests - BOSM (BITS Open Sports Meet) Oasis ( Cultural fest ) Apogee ( Tech fest ) Oasis is the second most biggest college fest in India. It has a very high footfall. Happens over a span of 4 days in October. Colleges from all over India participate in all the 3 fests. Apogee also happens over a span of 4 days.

It is around 5 lakhs per year right now. Every batch has a higher amount of fees than it's senior batch. Also the fee is not constant for a batch and that too keeps increasing. The current batches have to pay around 2.5 lakhs per semester.

Yes. Students get discount on fees if they get a certain CGPA. It can go upto a discount of about 1.5 lakhs.There two kinds of scholarships. Merit cum need and merit. Canara bank has a special scheme of Vidya turanth that gives BITS students a loan of 20 lakhs without security.

Everyday after 3 sports will be there basket ball, volley ball, throwball, gym will be there and there will be carroms, chess, badminton, squash, tennicoid and there will be personalized gym coach

Renovated hostels are really nice. Some old ones are getting renovated under project parivartan. The avg rent is around 50 per day. Excluding electricity charges which are also pretty minimal. There are a lot of water coolers evenly spaced around the hostel. There are a decent number of washrooms, all that get cleaned everyday.

Yes, there are a lot of clubs and departments in which we get to interact with a lot of seniors. This helps build alumni connections. BITSAA is an extensive network of alumni. Many of them come back and share their experiences with us.

Admission was through BITSAT. I chose MSc Economics as I was interested in doing economics. I am pursuing a dual degree here. I am also studying Computer Science. I had an option of choosing any other branch other than Computer Science and Electronics, so I chose economics so that I could take CS as a dual.

Most of the profeesors are really good and are experienced at teaching. Many have a lot of papers published by them. We can take a Study Project under any of those profeesors and get a paper of our own published.
