Government Victoria college in Palakkad, Kerala is one of the oldest colleges in Kerala. It was started in late 19th century as a rated school. Later, it was build into a college. The college campus is spread across 25 acres of land. I secured about 88% in Commerce (12th standard) and got admission in this prestigious college on merit. In Palakkad, it is a matter of pride to study in this college. It is not easy to get admission either. Merit is preferred and only best students gets admission.
Course Curriculum Overview
When I was studying, we had to mandatory opt for Financial Services in Year 3. They were relevant considering the changes in financial market and use of innovative financial instruments.
Internships Opportunities
Internship was not applicable for our curriculum. We were asked to prepare some project reports for each subject in the 2nd year. So we visited banks, insurance companies, retailers and manufacturing companies with a self-prepared questionnaire.
Placement Experience
Campus placements were there, Infosys and Wipro had come. For a B Com graduate, they were offered jobs in BPO and offered to pay upto Rs.3lakhs per annum
Fee Structure And Facilities
It was not expensive. I don't exactly remember the details though. However, I am sure that I would not have spend more than Rs.5000 for the entire course.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have not availed any scholarships and not sure about it. However, for toppers, several honorariums are awarded.
Campus Life
The college had a perfect balance of both girls and boys only. There are various associations like Commerce, History, English, etc. Students are invited and encouraged to attend the various association related activities. Further, our college is popular for encouraging to participate in extra-curricular activities. We have always participated in inter-college competitions and won many prizes.
Exam Structure
I belonged to Commerce department with limited needs to use labs. When I was studying, there were only three sets of exams - Quarterly, Half yearly and annual. It was not hectic. I heard that now the college follows semester system.
Faculty
Most of the teachers were experienced. They were friendly. They were our mentors and real pillar of support. They continue to guide us when we are in dilemma.
