Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course curriculum is absolutely obsolete and has not been reviewed. Since it comes under the Punjabi University, Patiala, the curriculum is not changed and hence in a field like law, students often end up studying subjects and topics that they are never going to use in their life. Non important subjects are given as mandatory subjects and important ones are given as an elective which makes it extremely difficult for a person to choose what he/she wants to take. There is one internal exam which is held in the middle of the semester and one external exam which is held at the end of the semester which is of 74 marks, these exams are relatively simple to clear and don't require a lot of continuous studies. Life can be very chill for a person who does the bare minimum which is attend classes and study a bit for the exam. There is absolutely no research/study like a proper law college should have.

Placement Experience

1.5

The placement and job opportunities are at the worst place they can be. There is not a single law firm (corporate or litigation) which comes to the college for placements. There is no concept of day zero in the college. The organizations that come are primarily insurance firms which give a less than sustainable offer which has to be taken by the students because of the inherent lack of choice. The college doesn't even provide internships in law offices and discourages anyone who wants to apply and intern on their own. There is no attendance relaxation shown for students who are interning and there is no internship break given by the college, hence the students have to miss classes and intern at the risk of getting detained (yes this has happened). The college always maintains that the internships are a personal responsibility and the college doesn't care about the students internships. The college doesn't have the authority which has the expertise to run like an actual law college.

College Events

1.5

There are no inter college events celebrated in our college and whatever few student run events were there, were also stopped by the authorities. The campus is extremely cut off from the outside world and there are a few intra college events which are held (that too after a lot of difficulty).

Fee Structure And Facilities

I think the fee structure is comparatively feasible. The hostel fees includes your messing charges, laundry, etc and apart from this there is the academic fees which includes the tuition and the IT expenses. Compared to other private institutions like Symbiosis, Jindal etc. It's definitely cheaper. However I would not call it feasible or affordable if looked in isolation.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are scholarship after you join the college for your performance in the course but no such scholarship exists at the time of admission. Student loans from the major banks can be easily availed. Scholarships are primarily academic.

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel is compulsory for the first year in college but after that it's optional. Since the campus is a residential one, both the girls and the boys hostels are in the small campus and are fenced with a barbed wire inside the tiny campus. The rooms are twin sharing and common washourooms are given for the floor. The final year students get individual single rooms. The curfew time for the hostel is 11pm and after that everyone is confined to the barbed fencing.

Alumni/Alumna

The college has never appreciated or recognised the great achievements of the alumni and has never truly maintained an alumni network. Therefore the ex-students who are at great positions in their respective careers also do not help the students because of this utter disregard and failure of the authorities. The alumni meet is cancelled at the last minute without any reasons which leads to a lot of trouble for the people who had made bookings and reservations. The feeling of alienation from the institution sets in before passing out and half the ex-students don't really want to help out because of that. The few people who want to help out are also disallowed by the authorities because of a fear of change.

Admission

There is an All india entrance examination wherein out of a total of 80 seats per batch, 60 are reserved for wards of serving/retired army personnel, 16 are reserved for punjab domicile students and 4 seats are reserved for all india civil category. The test for fairly simple and there was no negative marking either. I chose it because it is a bit cheaper than the other options and the students you meet share a common background which is usually helpful.

Faculty

1.5

The experienced faculty is decent but the newly appointed ones lack the requisite qualifications, interest, and skills to teach the subject they are handling. There are times a teacher is just not appointed and the students have to suffer later on because of this delay in appointment. The teachers usually treat AIL as a transit and just wait to finish their PhD side by side since there is absolutely no pressure here. Apart from that there is no notable guest faculty who is called to teach certain topics. The teachers don't take criticism well at all and treat it as a blow to their ego rather than thinking maybe there is something fundamentally wrong in the way they teach. Students correcting teachers for gross factual inaccuracies is a common sight in AIL classrooms.
