Remarks
The positive thing is Vit has a Fully flexible credit system through which one can choose his own timetable and faculty and create a timetable on their own. Negative things are the outing timings for vit Chennai are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm which is a very less time and girls are not permitted outing during weekends unless there is permission and the arrear fee which is too high. These are a few pros and cons of Vit.
Course Curriculum Overview
Vit follows a different curriculum i.e as it a deemed University it has its own one. Basically, the course curriculum in Vit is really good. Like for example, the course curriculum is prepared as if it is connected to a real-life problem and in a practical way. For example, I have many courses like Programming language Java, Software architecture for each one we have a J i.e project and lab where one can take real-life examples and connect it to theory. The exams in Vit as usually the same as others we have two internal exams i.e Cat(Continuous assessment test) where CAT-2 will be an open book exam. Though it is an open book it will be a bit tough. And finally one final assessment test for lab and theory. If one has a project component the evaluation is based upon the review submitted. And we have three Assignments which is the only one thing one can score directly and easily. So totally it will be like 30% for Assignments, 30% of CAT, 40% of FAT. So one doesn't need to worry about CAT marks. But should make it good in Assignments and FAT. If one fails to clear a course then it's a different way in Vit, like you should re-register the course again with a fee of Rs6000/- and go for all classes and write the exam again. So please be a bit careful with your marks.
Placement Experience
Placement opportunities in Vit are good for all branches and mainly for my branch computer science. The recruiters are the giant companies like Microsoft, Google, PayPal, Cognizant, TCS, Yes Bank, and many more. The placements start in 3rdyear(2nd semester) for BTech and 4thyear(2nd semester) for Mtech(Integrated). The internship opportunities are more often in Vit, nearly I receive a minimum of one mail regarding internship offers to my mail from Vit. But Vit doesn't directly provide internships but companies offer based on an interview and test. One needs to work hard to get a good internship and the stipend depends on the company.
College Events
There are many events celebrated but two of them are main which are the Techovit which is a technical fest and Vibrance which is a cultural fest. They stand in the top 10 fests in India and many participants come from all over the country to take part in different competitions held. For the recent cultural fest i.e Vibrance which is usually done in February there are nearly 10-15(thousand) participants and for Technovit as well which is done in September month. And there is a Management fest called Renaissance which is really helpful to the startup aspirants where workshops are conducted by people of IIM and have a chance to pitch your idea to investors too.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It totally depends on your rank/merit scored ranges from 100000-300000(for Mtech software engineering integrated) i.e my course. So one can't say it feasible or expensive, but comparing to other top private Colleges in India it is feasible.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes, there is a scholarship available for the students but only for the top twenty or ten students in the entrance exam. They will have a fee waiver of up to 50%. Apart from that the Indian Bank which is linked with Vit or the bank in vit gives you student loans with minimum interest. A part one can apply for a scholarship through the schemes of the government of India which are only applicable.
Campus Life
The gender ratio here is decent with nearly 5:4 of male, female ratio. There are a number of clubs for extra curricular activities like a sports club, yoga club, Dance club, and social NGO's like Uddeshya, Rotaract, Enactus, and more. Vit is a 100% ragging free campus. Vit has a multicultural heritage and culture where people come from different parts of the country. Hence no bias is showed with respect to Race, Region, and no student politics is encouraged in College.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels here are really well maintained with good hygiene and all facilities like gym, swimming pool, with basketball courts, etc. There are 1 share,2 share,3share,4 share,6 share A.C & Non-A.c rooms available. The hostel seats are given on a first serve first-come basis, but there are many Pg available outside College. And the hostel fee varies according to the room you choose and the type of mess you choose.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes, the relationship with Seniors is pretty good as there is no ragging, they treat us like their friends and help us in academics and in the placement processes like the way the placements take place tips and e.t.c.
Admission
Usually, VIT refers to the Vellore institute of technology conducts an entrance exam every year for engineering and other branches through which the admission process takes place. Usually, the exam takes place between March-May time for which one should fill an application form which will be opened by December on Vit's official website or you can get it offline through if one visits College. The application fee may be around Rs1400/- at my time. For BTech entrance exam is compulsory and based on the marks scored merit list is given through which one can join based upon his rank. Whereas for my course Mtech software engineering integrated one doesn't need to write an entrance exam but the merit list is based on a 10+2(PUC) percentage of Maths, physics, chemistry. Based on your rank there are ranks allotted and a specific counseling date given on which you must decide under choosing the College branch (Place) basically Vellore is the first priority, next comes Chennai, Amaravati, Bhopal. There are nearly 5 categories of fees that are given based upon one's rank. I got 93% in My 10+2 and I got the Chennai branch in the 2nd category where Vellore seats were done. So one get easily get into Vellore institute of technology as there are many categories of fees ranging from 1lakh to 5lakh. But if you want to get a low category fee then your rank must below to get the main campus i.e Vellore. But one needs to remember in order to get admission one should compulsorily submit the application form without that you can never get into College.
Faculty
Most of the faculties here are highly qualified ones with Doctorates and Ph.D. in their specific fields. Most of the faculty have a work experience of nearly 5years and they are really keen towards the course and make people understand in a simple way. And the faculty here is friendly to students, they treat you as friends, help you not only with academics problems but also help you with your loneliness for those who are first to the hostel and there is a separate psychological cell with psychology faculty for students too. Hence one need not worry about faculty, there support you in every way needed to your growth.
