Remarks
There are many positive sides of IIT BOMBAY which were described in the above questions. I talk about the negative, then there needs to establish more hostel to cater to all students, provide enough eateries in the institute and bring back Tum-Tum.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure currently is well established and knowledge-driven for the students at IIT BOMBAY. It is very flexible for students as they can take any course from any department. The exam pattern is also dynamic and varies according to professors. The labs are quite good and useful for students and not hectic.
Placement Experience
The Placement is too good to compare to other IITs.There are more than 250 companies visiting every year for the Placement in December and the average package this year is above 20 LPA. There are numerous internship opportunities available to the students here with a good stipend of up to 2.5 lakh. The major recruiters are Goodman's Sach, BCG, Google, Microsoft, Barclays, Optiver, Yahoo, Sony Japan, etc.
College Events
There are various events that continue throughout the year at IIT BOMBAY. The technical fest is TECHFEST. The cultural festival is called MOOD INDIGO which is Asia's largest college cultural festival. The management fest is called E-Summit. All the fests attract a huge crowd from all over India. Many Bollywood actors visit IIT BOMBAY.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee for the UG students is around 115250 per semester while for PGs it is 20250 per semester. Ph.D. students pay 17000 per semester. It is expensive for undergraduate students but they get a good scholarship. The M.Tech students get 12400 stipends each month and Ph.D. get 31000 stipends.
Fees and Financial Aid
The one scholarship offered to the students is the MCM scholarship. In this scholarship, students with parents' annual income less than 8 LPA gets their fee remitted. This helps a lot of students. Also, many alumni give donations to provide scholarships to students.
Campus Life
The extracurricular activities are of a very high level. The sports fest is called AAVHAN which organizes many sports events. There is good participation from the girls' side. They win medals in inter IIT tournaments. The gender ratio is not that good but it is improving due to reservation to girls. There are various workshops organized to create awareness about nature, safety, cleanliness, etc. There is a gender cell that takes care of any gender discrimination case if any. There is usually no discrimination based on caste, creed, or religion among students.
Hostel Facilities
I have opted for the hostel and currently in Hostel 12. The hostel infrastructure is marvelous. We are given a single room with all the facilities. The rent we pay is 3000 per semester for the rooms which is quite cheap. It has a TV room, Gym, Common Room with good equipment.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni students network at IIT BOMBAY is tremendous. We have SARC ( STUDENT ALUMNI RELATION CENTER). It maintains the relationship of past students with current students. It helps a lot of students to get guidance from such seniors. They guide them in each and every field. They also help in providing internships and jobs. They give donations to fulfill the demand of students in their academics.
Admission
I got admission through an induction program between NIT SURAT and IIT BOMBAY. I got a chance to study final year B.Tech and M.Tech here. They select the top 15 students from NIT SURAT and based on interviews we were selected.
Faculty
The faculties at IIT BOMBAY are one of the finest in the country. They all are experts in their field. Most of them have done their Ph.D. from foreign universities. They are interested in the subjects they teach to the students.
