Remarks

The overall experience in BITS Pilani was one of the best and one of the most rewarding years of my life academically, professionally and for personal development. BITS Pilani has created qualified individuals across the global who lead a high quality and an intellectual life.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Course curriculum is one of the best in India, certainly on par with IITs. Exam structure is - regular tutotial tests in classes and mis semester and comprehensive examinations per semester. Laboratory components are evaluative as well. Free grading structure is relative and not absolute.

Placement Experience

4.5

College does provide 3 rounds of internship. One is Practice School 1 (50 days) and another is Practice School 2 (5.5 months, which is a whole semester in itself), with tie ups with companies and firms. Placement scene is fantastic and placement percentage is certainly more than 90. Every person that aspires for a placement gets it due to high efforts from a dedicated placement unit comprised of both students and faculty. Stipend varies from company to company and it is offered by them.

College Events

5

Events rounds the year conducted by students for the students. By cultural associations, academic associations and various clubs and departments. The clubs and departments also organise 3 major 5 day each festivals - BITS Open Sports Meet (BOSM) - sports festival, Oasis (cultural festival), APOGEE (technical festival).

Fee Structure And Facilities

Trending towards expensive but feasible if one compares it to IITs fees structure. There is a fee hike of 15% every year though. Currently it sits around 2 lac per semester which includes tuition fees and hostel and mess fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

BITS does offer Merit Cum Need scholarships to the students in need, which varies from 10% to 50%. Students are required to pay the semester fees initially but the scholarship amount is waved off in final settlement / next semester fees requirement depending on income proofs and academic performance. Since BITS Pilani is a revered, known and celebrated name, it is very easy to get education loans from bancs.

Campus Life

4.5

Labs are quite advanced and equipments match the study materials. There is a separate research division for every academic department. The availability of the equipment varies for grad, post grad and pHd students. As for extra curricular activities as explained above, various clubs, departments and regional associations conduct events and festivals. There are separate professional teams for sports that participate in the college and over India.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostels are quite amazing. Just a few years ago each and every hostel went through renovations. The walls are thick and the Hostels are spacious and safe. Majority of the rooms are single rooms and first year students mostly share double rooms. Facilities include 24x7 water and solar water heaters in every hostel for warm water. Every 2 hostels share a mess for food which has breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Alumni/Alumna

There is an extensive alumni association network which is called - BITSAA (BITS Alumni Association). It works for the benefit of free current students in college, for monetary benefits of the college and for benefit of BITS alumni across the world. BITSAA also conducts annual global meetings.

Admission

You have to clear BITSAT (BITS Admission Test) and top rank holders are requested to submit order of degrees of their choice. Depending upon availability interaction lists are put out. Should the person choose to take the degrees being offered based on the rank and preference, they can take admission.

Faculty

4

College faculty is comprised of one of the most qualified minds in India. Every faculty member is engrossed in research apart from day to day teaching and they contribute to their fields duly. Teaching methods are also one of the most advanced in India.

Placement Experience:

Students can sit in campus placements starting from their second last semester. Some phenomenal companies that visited placement last year was BCG , Bain n Co . , Jane Street ,Amazon , Flipkart .Also there are many companies /startups which visit for non tech roles like PM / data (Xpedia) and many more .As for the tech and core roles if you have a CG above 8 you will be sure shot placed . Highest packages go upto 2 crores for quant roles since they are highly paid for .Approximately 81 % of the students get placed , I have personally seen students with a CGPA of even 5 get placed a job of 14 Lakhs per annum .My plans after getting the degree are to work in finance .
