Remarks
The very first thing that strikes the mind after hearing St Xavier's college is 'discipline'.The college authorities are very liberal but only upto the utmost faith. There is zero tolerance for any in disciplinary action.
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus is designed in a very efficient manner. In most of the courses, there are 5 papers in each semester. In my stream i.e management there were 30 papers across 6 semesters. The college always focussed on developing interpersonal skills in the students.Sessions for stage fear, group discussion, interview panel challenges were done regularly. For the better exposure of the stream, the department organized several trips to Banks, industries, NGOs , NBFCs etc so that we could practically learn about what we are studying on paper. One of the most memorable industrial visits was of Hindalco (muri, Jharkhand).
Placement Experience
the placement cell is not very old but it is quite active and effective. Almost 90% of the students get placed from the campus. During the course, the department provides regular sessions of GDPI mocks and a practice session for personality development. And that nurtures the skills resulting in the students clearing the placements. almost 50 companies visit the campus. Several big and renowned companies like Godrej, Indigo, ICICI Bank, Wipro, Infosys, British Telecom etc are active recruiters. The package jumps up to 3 lacs a year.
College Events
St.Xavier's college is well known for its cultural activities. One of the most famous among the said program is the XAVIER UTSAV.in In maximum events, the guests are from Bollywood, social activists and poets.in my tenure Mr.Yashpal Sharma(actor) was the chief guest for Xavier Utsav. Every year in the month of February the Xavier fest is organized and various activities are performed eg nukkad plays, dance and drama. The Xavier Utsav is followed by the convocation ceremony.
Fee Structure And Facilities
After the result of the entrance exam, the admission process starts and the candidate has to submit the fee for a year. The available mode of payments is online, POS and cash. There is no additional fees for reserving or securing admissions. The candidate has to submit the yearly fee directly at the time of admission. Though the college authority is liberal towards converting the fee into installment. In the demand note there are all the bifurcations of the fee that the college is charging eg development fee, tuition fee etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Though I didn't for any scholarship or loans it is easily available. Inside the college, there is a scholarship department but it is basically for the students belonging to scheduled tribes
Campus Life
The college campus is very diverse. Having more of the girl students the campus has a good security arrangement which include cctv and security guards. There is a church that is the point of attraction in the college campus. Inside the campus, there are 5 canteens and there is no bifurcation for teacher and student in context to sitting in the canteen. there are gardens and a large variety of plantations. The campus has a very positive environment and all the students find there place inside the campus for tea-chit-chat. There is a central library inside the campus where the students from all departments can sit and study. Sport is an inevitable part of campus life.It includes basketball, cricket ground, football ground, etc. Though it is a Jesuit society college no one can feel any kind of discrimination. All the students have a sense of brotherhood and morale towards the fair sex. There is no college politics existing in this college.
Alumni/Alumna
Our seniors always had an interactive meet with us and many of them are still in contact. Though i haven't attended any alumni meet yet but the network is built up.In the college campus, they never misbehaved as ragging is a serious offense and not tolerable inside the campus. Beside this, they always helped me with studies, places or any other i did seek that time.
Admission
St.Xavier's college is the only institution in the entire east that provides vocational courses. After passing the intermediate exam I was all set to join vocational courses and through my entire research, I found this college to be one of the best for such course. I applied for the course and took an entrance test and joined the college. The college is best known for its discipline, the quality of education and widespread courses. It has over 28 departments in graduation and post-graduation. The timings are such efficiently scheduled that one will have the entire day in his hand after the classes. The college is much focussed at cultural activities; No need to mention much about the XAVIER UTSAV as everybody must be knowing it. Barely any college can compete the standards of St.Xavier's college, Ranchi in the state of Jharkhand and neighboring. Being a Xaverian I can say that Xavier played the most important part in nurturing my potential. Last but not the least,' once a Xaverian always a Xaverian'
Faculty
There were about 20 faculties in my department who were PGT in their field. It was a combination of young and aged/experienced faculty members. Most of the faculties were quinquagenarian and sexagenarian. Every day we had 5 lectures taken by assistant professors and the dean of our department. All the faculties in my department were highly qualified and experienced. For instance,in 4th semesters we had a paper of Banking principles. The faculty for that subject was the general manager of a commercial bank and he was having all the practical knowledge which was apt to our course.
