Remarks
Positive Remarks- Our faculty is blessed with a huge law library and not only this, we have access to Central Library as well as Cyber Library. The greenery of BHU is very well known and the environment is therefore clean and fresh. BHU is far away from pollution. A student of the main campus in any of the faculties can get to attend different seminars and workshops on versatile fields. Negative Remarks- As such there is nothing to be said but yes, since Varanasi as a city is not much developed therefore it is not much favourable for people who want to have a taste of corporate life so the other option being that one can himself improve his CV by doing internships at metropolitan cities.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is based on the pattern followed by National Law Universities. In the first year, there are easy subjects to learn but as one proceeds further, complexities of different Laws are taught to us. During the first two years time there are subjects like Sociology, Political Science, Economics, Legal Language, Professional Ethics and Accountability etc. In these two years, a student also learns basic laws like Constitution, IPC , Contracts, and later in 4th and 5th year, one gets accustomed to Taxation law, Corporate Law, Banking law , Environmental law, etc.
Internships Opportunities
Our college however lacks in providing internship till now. However, internship committee is already formed and it is working in the direction to provide with ample number of options. The alumni of BHU Law School are mostly in litigation field hence the contacts are very helpful in Litigation. To remind, the Chairman of Law Comission - Mr. B.S. Chauhan is also a notable alumni of BHU.
Placement Experience
The placement committee is still working and we hope that it will be functioning effectively in atleast 2-3 years positively. One cannot find Job if he or she is totally dependent on any of the Universities. One must build his/her CV so well that job opportunities are offered to them. For building CV, one must regularly do Moot Courts, write research papers, do internship at law firms etc.
College Events
Being a traditional university, BHU celebrates festivals with great enthusiasm. Festivals like Janmashtmi is celebrated so well and the decorations are such that it will be a pleasure to your eyes. In festivals like Holi and Diwali, usually students leave the Hostels therefore not much celebration. Also, the Basant Panchmi is celebrated with great interest. Girls and boys wear yellow dresses in the honour of Goddess Saraswati and they dance and sing to celebrate this day. Rallies of different colleges is conducted on this day and every college showcases their talent while taking part in the celebration. Last but not the least, Srijan, the annual fest is conducted in month of February where one can take part in different competitions as per their interest. Speaking of the academics, moot courts, quiz competition, PDs, seminars, conferences are conducted regularly.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure is very reasonable when compared to NLUs. BHU offers so much in return of a reasonable amount to be paid as fees. The fees is nearly 60,000 Rupees and it is reasonable when compared with fees of NLUs which have a fee structure of minimum 3-4 lakhs.
Fees and Financial Aid
One can avail the facility of diffent scholarships provided by different state governments. However only work for some students because it requires eligibility criteria which one needs to fulfill and various documents which will be checked by Authorities.
Campus Life
Extra curricular activities are also good in our college. Our University have its own Amphitheatre, Gymnasium, Swimming Pool where one can learn the skills. Sports like Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Squash, Kabaddi ,Tennis, Badminton are present so one can train himself. Also our university runs certificate courses or diplomas in the field of foreign languages, learning Kathak or some musical instruments, Visual arts, etc.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel is in a very good condition. One might not even expect the kind of hostel facility which is provided to the hostelers. The rooms are nice, well ventilated, enough for 2 students. Also there are tables, chairs, beds, almirahs for 2 students in a single room. Besides some rooms have a balcony attached. Also the washrooms are clean and hygienic. There are nearly 2 water coolers present on every floor. The mess food is good for a reasonable amount and consisting of varieties of food to be prepared on each day.
Alumni/Alumna
Absolutely Yes. I remember, on the day of my first internship at the NALSA which is located in New Delhi, there were 2 advocates who came to know that we are from BHU and they offered us such hospitality that I still feel thankful to them. Of course they did not know us personally but it the love that we get wherever we go because of our University. The Seniors are more than helpful and always welcome us with whatever doubts we have. Whether it's day or night, our queries are always answered.
Exam Structure
The Exam conducted in BHU focusses on conceptual understanding of a particular concept. This way, it is difficult to get marks if one does not study well. So it is very important for a student to understand the basic concepts and then try to apply those in real life so as to get a better understanding. The semester exam is divided into two portions- 70 marks for Theory Paper. 30 marks for Presentation.
Admission
Firstly, I have filled up the BLAT Form online which is the entrance test for pursuing B.A. LLB( Hons.). It is advised to the students to check for the availability of forms from the month of January to March. After the form is filled, one will receive the information on their given email address. Usually in the month of May, entrance exam is conducted. So one must be prepared by that time with the required documents such as admit card. After giving the entrance exam, wait for the result and after the result is out, prepare for the Councilling session. For the Councilling session , one needs to be present in Faculty of Law at BHU for submitting various documents like Migration Certificate, Character Certificate, Transfer Certificate , Score Card etc. One needs to visit BHU atleast 2-3 times during this period because various formalities are essential to be completed. If one is lucky enough to grab a good rank then one is allotted Hostel during the same period. Even before Councilling, one will receive information regarding payment of fees and after the payment one is required to furnish the details to the authority. After a gap of 1-2 weeks, classes are started.
Faculty
The Faculty is well known for their respectable fields. Our faculty consists of teachers who have been teaching since more than 20 years or even more. Some of the faculty members have already hold posts as Advocates of Supreme Court but later their desire to teach has brought them to the lands of Varanasi. Some teachers have even taught in NLUs like NLUJ, RMLNLU etc. Some teachers also give guest lectures in various NLUs from time to time. Our faculty is a balanced mixture of knowledge with experience.
