Remarks
Education is good but don't completely rely on the faculties notes. I mean, don't just study to clear the exams, Engineering is much more than that. The beauty lies is with all the great facilities you also get a very paradise-like environment of Sikkim which relaxes every student.
Course Curriculum Overview
The test contained 100 marks with equal weightage given to Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Aptitude/Reasoning. Maths, Physics and Chemistry were Class-11 and 12 based so if you were a good student in your High school you'll easily get through.
Placement Experience
No, my college does not provide internship. But they conducts a 20-days Pre-placement Training which proved to be really helpful for me. Placement for my batch went really smooth and only those few people were left jobless who pursued higher studies.
College Events
EEE departmental fest, mechanical departmental fest, Computer science and engineering departmental fest, electronics and communication engineering departmental fest, information technology departmental fes.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is at par with rest of the private institution of India. Currently, B.Tech courses requires a fee of RS.10,00,000. Other courses such as M.Tech requires RS.3,50,000 (yup, you don't get stipend here). BBA requires RS. 3,60,000 and MBA requires RS. 5,50,000.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are few scholarship that the Institution provides such as 30% off to candidates scoring 90% and above in PCM subjects in their 12th grade, 20% for scoring between 85-90% and 10% off for scoring between 80-85%.
Campus Life
The extra-curricular facilities are international school level. Well-equipped gymnasium with all high-end equipments, a swimming pool. There is even a yoga room. There is a football cum cricket field. Two basketball cum tennis court.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is good. You get accommodation of two persons per room with separate study tables, beds, almirah and an attached bathroom. The Institution has in total of three hostels, namely NBH(New Boy's Hostel) for freshers and BBA+MBA, OBH(Old Boy's Hostel) for second year's onwards students and a Girls Hostel.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network of SMIT is very good. Alumnus always stay connected. They even visit the Institution regularly to give TEDx talks. Some are CEOs of startups, some are highly acclaimed business analyst and numerous other engineers who also provide internship to it's student.
Admission
I got All Sikkim Rank-47 in the State Common Entrance Test through which I had a round of counceling in which I chose CSE as my main field. Post the counceling round, I was called for a day in the Institution for a pre-tour where a faculty showed is around the campus and all the details of the formalities to be done before joining.
Faculty
Faculty of my department were great and also there were who were the worst. But the later's quantity was less. Some of them are really highly qualified and are PhD holders and they not only makes your foundation strong but also are very genuine and humble persons.
