Remarks

Lady brabourne college is one of the premiere colleges under the University of Calcutta, and both the college staff as well as the teaching faculty are always there to help the students with any issues.

Entrance Preview

The college had it's own entrance test which was a multiple choice question test for economics some other departments, like biotechnology had interviews for selecting students.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is provided by the University of Calcutta. The faculty is knowledgeable and not only do they teach well, they are always ready to help students in case of any doubts or clarifications.

Internships Opportunities

We did not have any provision for internship since we had our annual university exam in the summer months, the summer vacations were spent preparing for the exam, and there was no scope for an internship.

Placement Experience

1.5

Most of the students in my batch were interested for further studies,so my department did not have a dedicated placement cell. However, people interested for placements mostly have to do it on their own.

College Events

3.5

The main event of the college is the 2 day Annual Cultural Fest, called Kaleidoscope that is held during the winters other than that we also had alumni meet and annual day for prize distribution.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a government funded college under the University of Calcutta, the fees structure is very favorable during my time, the annual fees are about Rs 1500.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since it is a government college with very less fees, there is hardly any need to avail loans however, students with consistently good performances and from a poor financial background are given book grants and living expenses scholarship.

Campus Life

4

The campus life is pretty lively not only do we have an annual fest, an alumni meet and cultural programmes, there are also regular half-day events held, especially during the winters, when outdoor activities, such as gardening and badminton are encouraged. The girls regularly participate in inter-college activities, such as quizzes, debates etc all across the city, and I have never felt any discrimination in the campus during my stay.

Hostel Facilities

2

The college has a girl's hostel, right adjacent to the college campus the first years students share a dormitory but from the second year they are eligible for separate rooms on a twin sharing basis. However, during my stay in the hostel, I was not very h

Alumni/Alumna

Our seniors were extremely helpful, be it with notes, or administrative processes not only did they help us with academics and co-curricular activities, we also had a lot of bonding in terms of department picnics, fest etc.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is uniform throughout all the colleges under the University of Calcutta there are two college exams and a final University exam there is enough time for students to prepare before all the exams.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
