Life spent in IIT campus is a memorable time and a students learn a lot more than just course details.

GATE, All India Rank 10. 99.9 percentile. Most prestigious college with best in class faculty. With a great rank in GATE i had various options to do my masters like IIT roorkee, CEPT, etc. But IIT kgp offers a highly experienced faculty in my stream and top that an amazing campus which is the oldest and the largest among all IITs.

The course was divided into 4 semesters including on site live case studies and thesis in the last semester. The first semester included classroom sessions on various topics covering all aspects of city planning like transportation planning, design, waste treatment, etc. Further in the second semester there were more electives to choose from ranging from urban design to learning C language. The live case studies and educational tours made it more interesting. The final semester is completely dedicated to thesis with multiple presentation sessions and a final jury.

Yes the college provides internship and employes students for assistantship. We are masters student used to get a steady stipend of Rs. 8000 per month but once employed as an assistant for internship this stipend can increase upto Rs 16000 per month.The overall experience can be really great and requires lot of hard work.

Placements in my batch were not that great and around 40% of the students were placed during campus placements. The market can be real tough for such courses and many people start their own practice. The few real estate companies that came to the campus were eastbrook holdings, HCP Ahemdabad, IL&FS, etcAs there are several companies which are open for all streams and take an aptitude test and then several rounds for recruitment. Many of my batch mates set for such companies and got recruited in other industries like KPOs etc. Various companies offer various packages ranging from 3 lakhs per annum to 8 lakhs per annum during my time.

Every year IIT kgp conducts one cultural fest called Spring Fest and One Technical Fest called Tech Fest. Both are conducted on a very large scale with a lot of colleges all over india participating in the same. Spring fest is one of the best cultural fest conducted in the IITs and many artist like sunidhi chauhan, Kumar Vishwas etc. Comes to perform in this 3 days long fest. Tech fest includes a lot of presentations and lectures by eminent personalities and various competetions like robotics, etc. Besides this IT kgp celebrates Illumination - festival of diyas during diwali which is one of a kind and great grand celebration to watch.

Fees is very nominal specially for master students who get a stipend which covers the tution fees easily. The Tution fess inclusive of everything was around 19000 Rs per semester and hostel fees was around 25,000 per semester. Thus the 2 years course costed around Rs. 2 lakhs.

IIT kGP offers a scolarship under GATE exam for post graduate courses which was availed by me after clearing the exam. I was entitled to Rs 8000 per month stipulated stipend.

Campus life was amazing. The campus is sprawling area with lots of trees, gardens and play grounds. All students commute through cycles or walking making it a real green campus. There is no in-time in the hostels and the students are free to roam the campus all night long. There are few food joints which are open all night and a lot of students hang out in the night playing music, games and enjoying campus life to the fullest.

There are around 3 Girls Hostel in the campus. The hostel rooms are on sharing basis. @ girls per room. The rooms are spacious. The toilets though are not attached and there are two common toiletes on each floor. There hostels are G+2 with no lift facili

IITs are famous for their strong alumni network. The seniors are a great help during placements and in general for sharing notes and most of all their valuable experience.
