Hostel life at IIT Bhubaneswar is comfortable and student-oriented, especially if you’re someone who enjoys privacy and decent facilities. Every student gets a single room—furnished with a bed, table, chair, cupboard, and often a balcony. You’ll find washing machines, geysers, water coolers, Wi-Fi, common rooms, and sports facilities in every hall.
The mess has 4 meals a day, and though the food is good enough (with both South and North Indian dishes), there's a night canteen and cafés within walking distance if you need a change.
There are no rigid hostel timings, so you'll have freedom. The hall council, run by the students, keeps things happening with fests, sports tournaments, and cultural events.
Hostel and mess charges are between 10,000 and 18,000 per semester, which is fairly reasonable for the facilities that are being offered. The atmosphere as a whole is warm, relaxed, and supportive, and it's a nice balance of study and campus life.
There are 4 hostels inside the campus of IIT Bhubaneswar with two of them being fully functional and two in the last stages of their completion. The two fully functional hostels are the Subarnarekha Hall of Residence- The Girls Hostel and the Mahanadi Hall of Residence- The Boys Hostel, the two new hostels that are in the final stages of their construction are the Brahmaputra Hall of residence( boys hostel) and the Ganga hall of residence(girls hostel).
Each hostel is equipped with proper facilities like the gym and courts for basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and lawn tennis etc. Essential amenities like the bed, study table, cupboard and chairs are provided in each room. Hostel rooms also have 24*7 LAN and Wi-Fi facilities. There are small libraries in the common rooms and a lab providing high-speed internet. There are canteen facilities available both inside the hotel and in other places within the campus premises. Washing machines water purifiers are also available on each floor of the hostels. The CCTV cameras are installed outside the hostels for security purposes. ATM machines are also available inside the hostels. The biggest takeaway is that each student has his/her own room which takes away the hassle of sharing the room with someone else. The food provided in the mess is of decent quality and proper hygiene is maintained. Menus are changed frequently to break the monotony.
The hostel experience at IIT Bhubaneswar is good with the Braueni hills providing a picturesque and cool environment.
