Student experiences provide valuable insights but vary individually based on personal expectations and involvement.

Aspects to consider:

  • Academic Rigor: Course difficulty, faculty support, and learning opportunities.
  • Campus Culture: Clubs, fests, technical events, and student community vibe.
  • Peer Group: Interaction with motivated peers enhances learning and networking.
  • Industry Exposure: Guest lectures, workshops, internships, and placement support.
  • Work-Life Balance: Academic pressure vs extracurricular activities and personal time.

Connect with current students and alumni on LinkedIn or college forums for honest perspectives. Individual experience depends on how actively you engage.

IIT Bombay (2019)

My friend stayed at IIT Bombay only for a month but her experience was so amazing she couldn’t stop praising the institute. Some core points from the overall experience are:

  • An orientation is conducted to introduce the basics of the MTech program for two days. Your seniors will interact with you and give you advice. A presentation related to the course curriculum will be played to deliver the necessary information.
  • The first semester is pretty hectic as students are not used to the rigor and life at IIT Bombay.
  • Students take courses worth 60 credits. Each subject carries 6 credits. During the first semester, students usually take 4 subjects with Software Lab being compulsory
  • You are allotted 2 weeks to make a choice of 4 subjects. During these 2 weeks, you can attend lectures on any subject, interact with students and decide your elective accordingly.
  • The institute offers some audit courses also wherein you have to just attend classes and not give exams. These are meant solely for learning.
  • Attendance is taken through biometric ID cards.
  • Classes usually start around 8: 30. The campus is so huge that most people rent bicycles or avail taxis that roam inside the campus.
  • The class experience varies from subject to subject. All students have a good idea about most subjects since they have come through GATE.
  • The faculty is really good apart from a few cases. Machine learning was taught by Preethi Jyothi, a P.hd from Ohio university. OS was taught by Mythili vutukuru, P.hd from MIT. Most of the teachers were cooperative and experienced.
  • The most hectic part of IIT Bombay life is the culture of regular assignments. One is expected to write around 1000 or more lines of code each week and should not be copied from anywhere. They have software for detecting plagiarism. Strict action is taken if caught for plagiarism.
  • Hostel facilities include double occupancy rooms with a decent LAN connection.
  • The mess food is average and most students start going to the canteen after a few days.

Life at IIT Bombay is definitely filled with fun and thrill and you will experience a roller coaster of emotions throughout m

Master of Technology from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2020)

The course work of IIT Bombay MTech is demanding. The subjects that felt easy in B.Tech won’t feel easy anymore. You will have to grind to score a decent CGPA.

In the second year, you will have to do your project. The course work comparably decreases. Other than academics, there are good chances in sports, music, drama, etc.

Indian Institute of Technology, BHU (2018)

A friend of mine attended IIT Bombay for his MTech and had a good experience. The points listed below give a brief idea about the series of events that usually take place during the two years of M.Tech in the lives of students in IIT Bombay.

  • The first day at IIT Bombay is a dream situation in which you will meet your professors and seniors. They organize an induction program for the fresher. The memorable journey starts here.
  • The first year mostly consisted of course works. Along with the curriculum, students learn to manage things and enjoy to the fullest, even in that level of competition.
  • There will be late-night marine drive visits, online gaming late-night canteen, etc for creating memories during the two years. At DC++, everything is available online for free.
  • The techfest and MOODI happen at the end of the first semester and are literally a festival inside the campus for enjoying semester breaks.
  • The second-year is marked with project works for students in M.Tech. Overall workload decreases in the second year and so, more enjoyment, sports, gym, cultural activities, etc. The course of project work is steady and slow-paced, which needs patience to excel.
  • From July, the pre-placement training and preparations come into place. Though this does not affect the enjoyment as Bombay is a place worth exploring, the placement session from November to December is a little hectic. After being placed, students are free from any kind of pressure.
  • Ph.D. aspirants don’t have placement pressure, so they are always free to do other stuff and activities.
  • The seriousness of exam nights is mixed with enjoyment, in which there is no way one can regret to have chosen M.Tech. Friends from different regions and specialties provide a lot of exposure.
  • The campus is vast and lush green. The hostel for second-year students is great.

Almost every student expresses their stay at IIT Bombay to be irreplaceable and excellent. It becomes a lifelong journey, being in one of the best institutes to study in the country.
