For the B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi, the fees are close to 1,19,000 annually. I’ve been here for a while, and I can say that while the curriculum is manageable and there are good internship opportunities, the financial aspect can be tough without scholarships. The hostel situation isn't the best either, but overall, it’s a solid choice for those who want to dive deep into chemical engineering.

Fee structure for IIT Delhi.

Fee structure for IIT Bombay.

Fee structure for IIT Roorkee.

So, in short:

Tuition Fee

  • If you are from General or OBC category and your family income is more than 5 lakh, you need to pay a tuition fee of 1 lakh per semester.
  • If your family income is between 1 lakh and 5 lakhs, you pay one-third of the tuition fee, which is roughly 33k per semester.
  • If your family income is less than 1 lakh, there is no tuition fee.
  • For ST/SC category students, tuition fee is waived off, regardless of family income.

Other Fees and Mess Fee
These fees apply to everyone, regardless of category.

  • For hostel rent, water, electricity, medical, gym, and other charges, expect to pay around 15,000 to 20,000 per semester. This may vary between IITs.
  • The mess fee is approximately 12,000 to 15,000 per semester.

Grand Total (Approximately)

  • General => 1,35,000 per semester.
  • OBC => 1,35,000 per semester.
  • ST/SC => 35,000 per semester.

Here's the Semester 1 breakdown of fees for UG students who took admission in 2023–24:

While this includes adjustments for JOSAA counseling fees and some one-time security deposits, it does not cover mess charges. The breakdown for the second semester (General/OBC with Annual Family income > ? 5 Lakh) is as follows:

  • ? 1,05,750/- for Tuition & Exams
  • ? 26,800/- for Mess
  • ? 13,250/- for Hostel accommodation

This totals to ? 1,45,800/-.

To clarify further, the largest portion of the fees is, of course, the tuition fee (as shown above).

(I'm not even sure what the Student Distress Fund Scheme is or that it exists!)

Additionally, there are numerous scholarship opportunities available once you are in IIT Delhi, which is a topic that definitely deserves its own post.

At IIT Delhi, if you're looking into the B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering, you should expect to pay approximately 1,19,000 per year. The course is decent, and I like that we have a mix of core and non-core job options. Just keep in mind that while the stipend for internships can be quite high, the fees can be a burden if you don’t have any financial aid.

The total fees for the B.Tech + M.Tech in Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi is around 1,19,000 per year. I chose this course because I wasn't getting into anything better, and while the faculty is highly qualified, the teaching methods could use some improvement. Just a heads up, the hostel mess food is not great, and the overall cost can get pretty high if you don’t have scholarships.
