I’m currently in the B.Tech Mechanical Engineering program at IIT Delhi, and I can say it’s been an enriching experience. Honestly, pursuing B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi has been one of the best decisions of my life. The curriculum prepares us really well, even if some parts feel a bit behind the times. Doing B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi is definitely a great choice! The curriculum is solid and keeps up with industry trends, though sometimes it feels a bit outdated in some areas. I love how comprehensive it is, covering everything from practical skills to theoretical knowledge. Plus, the internship opportunities are amazing. I landed a design engineering internship with Tata Motors, which was a fantastic experience. With placements being over 85% for our batch, I feel confident about my future. Overall, IIT Delhi has prepared me well for the professional world.

Statistically, it’s NOT GREAT.

Here’s the deal: IIT Delhi is one of the few colleges in India where genuine mechanical engineering companies come for campus placements for real mechanical engineering roles. At most other popular Indian engineering colleges, the same companies often recruit for managerial positions instead.

Only those with a Mechanical Engineering degree from IITs typically choose to work in mechanical engineering companies if they couldn't sharpen their computer programming skills or were unlucky in landing managerial roles.

The pathways to becoming an automobile/mechanical engineer in India are:

• Compete in competitive exams to secure a mechanical engineering position in the government sector.
• Get recruited by private mechanical engineering companies from the top-10 Indian engineering colleges.

Don’t bother looking for a third option!

Most students from these well-known engineering colleges focus on computer programming to transition into computer engineering roles (earning anywhere from 5 to 50 LPA, depending on skills). These companies prioritize applicants' TopCoder and GitHub profiles over academic credentials.
