Is it worth doing a B.Tech Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi or not? What are its placement records and whats your experience with this college so far?

Honestly, choosing B.Tech Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi was one of the best decisions I've made. The curriculum is very thorough and provides plenty of hands-on learning opportunities. I had an internship at Google, which was a game-changer for my career. When it comes to placements, the stats speak for themselves—around 85% of students get placed in top-tier firms. Campus life is lively, with tons of events like Rendezvous and Tryst. If you're looking for a solid engineering program and a vibrant community, IIT Delhi is the place to be!

Doing a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi is totally worth it! The curriculum is comprehensive, covering everything from design to production, which really prepares us for the industry. I've had the chance to intern at Tata Motors, where I designed a new automotive component. The placement records are impressive too; over 85% of students get placed in top companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. It's important to note that IIT Delhi is one of the few colleges in India where actual mechanical engineering companies come for campus placements for genuine mechanical engineering roles. At most other popular Indian engineering colleges, these same companies often recruit for managerial positions instead.

Only those with a Mechanical Engineering degree from IITs typically choose to work in mechanical engineering companies if they:

• Could not develop their computer programming skills.
• Were unfortunate enough not to secure managerial roles.

The primary pathways to becoming an automobile/mechanical engineer in India are:

• Competing in competitive exams to enter the government sector.
• Getting recruited by private mechanical engineering firms from the top-10 Indian engineering colleges.

Do not look for a third option!! Most students from these well-known Indian engineering colleges focus on computer programming to become computer engineers (earning between 5–50 LPA, depending on their skills). These companies prioritize skills over academic credentials, focusing instead on TopCoder and GitHub profiles of applicants.

I’m currently doing my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi, and I can confidently say it’s an incredible experience! The curriculum is up-to-date with industry standards, although some parts could use a refresh. From what I’ve gathered about Mechanical Engineering, it’s an evergreen branch with a consistently wide scope. However, when it comes to placements, having a strategy from the beginning is crucial. It largely depends on how well a student prepares for the job market. I specifically mention the word ‘jobs’ here, not just how much you studied or scored. (A good score is important, no doubt, but it’s not enough.)

Companies today are looking for professionals, not just fresh graduates. You need to focus on learning skills that will make your profile stand out. Here are some key areas to concentrate on:

• Pursue internships to gain practical experience.
• Improve your communication skills.
• Identify your strengths and work on your weaknesses.

In short, be ready to work hard and smart to secure an excellent job during placements.
