Is doing B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering from IIT Delhi any good?

I'm a student of Industrial Engineering at IIT KGP. During orientation seminars conducted by the department, I learned that it's all about optimizing processes. It's one of the most industry-synchronized courses out there. The same goes for Industrial & Production Engineering at IIT Delhi. I’ve just started my journey in B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering at IIT Delhi, and I can already say it’s a fantastic decision. The faculty is incredibly helpful, and the teaching is primarily in English, which is great for us. The course has a solid curriculum that prepares us well for our careers. From the 3rd year, we can start getting placed, and companies like Google offer amazing internships with high stipends. The fee structure is clear, but I wish there were more scholarships available for students like me from economically weaker backgrounds. Overall, I’m thrilled to be here and look forward to what’s next!

I recently noticed a significant demand for Industrial Engineering roles on various job sites. However, securing relevant internships and gaining freshers' exposure can be challenging. The NITIE curriculum is beneficial for understanding industry trends and expectations.

Here are a few points to consider:

• Production and Industrial Engineering requires a substantial investment of time and energy in the initial stages.
• I highly recommend the Azure IoT course.
• Joining APIC’s student membership can greatly enhance your profile.

I’m really enjoying my time in the B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering program at IIT Delhi. The campus life is vibrant, with fests happening every couple of months, like Rendezvous and Kaizen, which keep things fun and engaging. The facilities are excellent, with comfortable classrooms and good resources like a library with all sorts of books. The hostel food is also pretty good, and we get nutritious meals daily. As for placements, we can start applying from our 6th semester, and I've heard that big names like Tata and Visa are frequent visitors. It’s a bit pricey living in Hauz Khas, but the education and opportunities make it worth it.

Many people say it's nearly the same as the mechanical branch. Yes, but not quite. Here’s why:

• You won't get thermodynamics and fluid dynamics as thoroughly as in the mechanical branch. Thermodynamics is crucial for understanding how machines work. In Industrial Production Engineering, you only get one course on thermodynamics, while the mechanical branch offers 3-4 courses. This difference can significantly impact your future.
• You have almost every other course that mechanical students take, but they generally score higher. This means you’ll need to put in more effort to achieve good grades. Most courses use relative grading, which can make it even more competitive.

So, while B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering from IIT Delhi has its merits, be prepared for the challenges!
