I'm a student of Industrial Engineering at IIT KGP. During orientation seminars conducted by the department, I learned that this field focuses on optimizing processes and is highly aligned with industry needs. The same applies to Industrial & Production Engineering at IIT Delhi. I hope this perspective helps, even if it doesn't directly answer your question!

After completing a B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering, here are the options available:

  • Almost all automobile companies: This is one of the best sectors for Production Engineers. You’ll have great opportunities through campus placements!
  • Some PSU companies hire specifically for Production Engineering, like Vizag Steel, but the number of positions is limited.
  • Other PSU companies may recruit as mechanical engineers through GATE-Mechanical or their own entrance exams, such as SAIL, GAIL, BHEL, NTPC, etc.
  • Another option is pursuing an MBA. Since the B.Tech curriculum includes several management subjects, it makes the transition smoother.

Overall, the prospects are promising!

Honestly, doing a B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering from IIT Delhi is a solid choice. The faculty here is amazing, and the student-to-faculty ratio is pretty balanced at about 1:50. This means you get a lot of attention from professors who are genuinely interested in helping you. The curriculum is well-structured and has a bright future ahead. Plus, the placement records are impressive. Companies like Google, Microsoft, and Tata visit for placements, and over 90% of students get placed, often with packages around 18 lakhs. I’m just in my first year, but the exposure and opportunities here are already making a big difference.
