So, I recently got into the B.Tech Electrical Engineering program at IIT Delhi, and honestly, the fees are a bit shocking. While I don't have the exact figures, I know that the fees are a significant amount, likely nearing ?2-3 lakhs annually. After paying the ?40,000 for the JOSAA counselling, it feels like a lot for a college that’s supposed to be public. It's definitely something to consider if you're planning to join!
Currently, if you gain admission to IIT Delhi through the general category, you will need to pay around 2 lakhs, excluding mess and hostel charges.
Hostel and mess fees are approximately 70,000 to 80,000 per year.
So, the breakdown is as follows:
Total = 10.8 lakhs
If your parent's income is below 6 lakhs, you might be eligible for MCM (Merit-cum-Means) scholarship. To qualify, you must maintain a good CGPA, have no backlogs, and engage in extracurricular activities. Additionally, you should not have any disciplinary actions against you in college.
For SC/ST/Physically Handicapped students, the entire academic fee is waived. Various other scholarships are also available based on academic performance.
The total cost for B.Tech Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi is quite high, especially for middle-class families like mine. The tuition fees are around ?40,000 for the counselling process, and then there are additional fees that push the total close to what you'd pay at a private college. I think the total might be somewhere around ?2-3 lakhs per year when you consider everything—tuition, hostel, and mess fees.
For every semester, the costs are as follows:
So for 4 years, it totals Rs 135,000 8 = Rs 1,080,000. This is applicable for general category students and those with a family income above Rs 8 lakhs a year.
If you belong to the SC/ST category, the tuition fees are completely waived off. Additionally, students from economically weaker backgrounds can benefit from various fee concessions.
With the right income level, you might end up paying very little or even nothing for the 4 years at IIT! Hope this helps! Thank you!
Joining IIT Delhi for Electrical Engineering has been exciting, but the costs are daunting. After paying the ?40,000 for the counselling, you’re looking at a total that can reach around ?2-3 lakhs per year. While I understand it’s a prestigious institution, the fees can be a real burden for many students. It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially when you factor in extra costs like hostel and food.
