Currently, if you gain admission to IIT Delhi through the general category, you will need to pay around 2 lakhs, excluding mess and hostel charges.
Hostel and mess fees are approximately 70–80 thousand per year.
Calculating the total:
If your parent's income is below 6 lakhs, you may be eligible for MCM (Merit-cum-Means) scholarship. To qualify, you must maintain a good CGPA, have no backlogs, and participate in extracurricular activities. Additionally, you shouldn't have any disciplinary actions against you in college.
For SC/ST/Physically Handicapped students, the entire academic fee is waived. Various other scholarships are also available based on academic performance.
For B.Tech Civil Engineering at IIT Delhi, the total cost is about 12-13 lakh for most students. Since I got tuition fee exemption due to my category, I’ll only be spending around 4-5 lakh for the entire degree. It's a fantastic college with amazing faculty, so I think the investment is totally worth it!
The total cost for B.Tech Civil Engineering at IIT Delhi is around 12-13 lakh for students who pay the full tuition fee. I’m in the category where the tuition fee is exempted, so my total cost will be about 4-5 lakh over the entire degree. This includes hostel and mess fees, which can add up but are manageable. The experience here is worth every penny!
This was the Semester 1 breakdown of fees for UG students who took admission in 2023–24: While this includes adjustments for JOSAA counseling fees and some one-time security deposits, it excludes mess charges. The breakdown for the second semester (General/OBC with Annual Family income > ? 5 Lakh) was as follows:
This brings the grand total to ? 1,45,800/-.
Here are some screenshots from the prospectus to clarify: The biggest chunk of fees is, of course, the tuition fee (as shown above). (I don’t even know what the Student Distress Fund Scheme is or that it even exists.) Additionally, there are multiple scholarship opportunities that arise once you are at IIT Delhi—a topic that deserves its own post!
