I’m in my second year of B.Tech in Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi, and I have to say, the education and exposure here are unmatched. The faculty is highly educated and engaged in research, which enhances our learning experience. The coursework is rigorous but rewarding, covering essential subjects like Thermodynamics and Process Control. The placement opportunities are also noteworthy, with top recruiters coming in. If you’re someone who values a dynamic environment and high earning potential, IIT Delhi would definitely be the better career path compared to a SSC level government job.

Choosing between IIT Delhi BE/B.Tech and a SSC level government job really depends on what you want from your career. I’m currently pursuing a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi, and honestly, the opportunities here are incredible. The campus placements are quite impressive, with around 85% of us getting placed in top companies like Google and Amazon from the 7th semester itself.

If you aim for a high-paying job in the tech or finance sectors, IIT Delhi is the way to go. Plus, the campus life and extracurricular activities are enriching, so I’d say it’s a solid choice for anyone looking for growth and fun.

GATE.

  • Competition is less in GATE.
  • M. Tech from IITs serves as a solid backup (aspirants often keep appearing for GATE even after entering IITs and have successfully cracked GATE, PSU examinations, and UPSC ESE). In contrast, SSC CGL has SSC-CHSL as a backup, which is NOT a good option for B. Tech holders.
  • GATE is a one-day examination (there's no tier-2, tier-3, etc., like in SSC CGL). While there is GD/PI in PSU recruitment, the GATE score carries the majority weightage.
  • Most posts in SSC CGL are for roles like Auditor, which aren't appealing. Only a few posts in SSC CGL are worthwhile. GATE leads to Executive posts in PSUs.
  • Salaries in PSUs are significantly higher than those in SSC CGL posts.
  • Promotions in SSC CGL posts are slow.

B.Tech ke baad SSC CGL ek kaafi acchi choice hai….

B.Tech karne ke baad private sector mein hamesha layoffs aur recession ka darr rehta hai…. Lekin SSC CGL se milne wali inspector ya assistant section officer ki jobs mein life ek baar set ho jaati hai toh tension khatam ho jaati hai…

B.Tech wale students ki maths aur logical reasoning pehle se hi strong hoti hai aur CGL ke exam mein yahi dono subjects sabse zyada scoring hote hain, isliye B.Tech students ka selection ratio bhi kaafi high rehta hai.

IT companies mein aksar 10 se 12 ghante ki shift hoti hai aur weekends pe calls aate hain… Lekin SSC CGL ki maximum posts mein fixed 9 se 5 ki timing hoti hai aur weekends off rehte hain….

Engineering ki degree ke baad jab aap excise inspector ya income tax inspector bante ho toh society mein jo respect milti hai wo ek normal software engineer se kaafi zyada hoti hai….

Thank youu…!!!

Personally, I think pursuing a BE/B.Tech at IIT Delhi is a much better option than going for a SSC level government job. I’m studying Chemical Engineering here, and the curriculum is intensive yet rewarding. You get to learn from top-notch faculty and have access to amazing resources like a massive library and various clubs. Campus placements are also a huge plus; we get offers from big names like Goldman Sachs and Microsoft. Even if government jobs are stable, the growth and opportunities at IIT Delhi are hard to beat, especially if you aspire for a high-impact career.
