Doing a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi is totally worth it! The curriculum is comprehensive, and I'm learning a lot in subjects like Fluid Mechanics and Chemical Reaction Engineering. The placement opportunities are fantastic—85% of us land jobs, with recruiters from IT, finance, and core engineering sectors coming in droves. Plus, the campus life is vibrant, with events like Rendezvous and Tryst keeping things exciting. The hostel facilities are good too, making it a well-rounded experience. If you get in, you won’t regret it!

I assume you have a rank between 1000–2000 in JEE Advanced. Chemical Engineering used to be a vibrant field, but it seems to have reached a saturation point. The demand for Chemical Engineers isn't as high as that for Computer Science graduates.

Regarding placements in core sectors, IIT Delhi's Chemical Engineering (or Chemical at any IIT) doesn’t perform as well. Companies are hiring fewer Chemical Engineers and tend to prefer M.Tech or research-oriented candidates for core roles.

However, the average placement for the entire batch is around 8 Lakhs per year. Impressive, right? This is largely due to non-core sector placements. Many companies in finance and management recruit students from IITs, regardless of their branch. (So, a CSE undergrad and a textile engineering undergrad are on equal footing here!)

In summary, if you have a deep passion for chemistry or want to experience the incredible life at IIT Delhi for the next 4–5 years, then Chemical Engineering is a solid choice. Otherwise, if you’re focused on good placements and a better future, pursuing CSE at newer IITs might be the way to go.

Hi there, There is plenty of scope in every branch. Don't limit your perspective to just CS.

  • In many countries, all branches are well-paid and in demand.
  • Numerous reputable companies visit IIT Delhi for chemical engineering.
  • There are also many non-core options available.
  • By choosing electives or minors, you can qualify for companies that typically hire only CS students.

So overall, pursuing a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi is a solid choice to kickstart your career! All the best!

I’d say definitely go for B.Tech in Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi if you get the chance! The faculty is top-notch and the facilities are great. I've been enjoying my time here, especially with the various clubs and activities available on campus. The placement record is also stellar—1300 offers from big names like Microsoft and Goldman Sachs this year! The hostel life is comfortable too, with decent meals and well-equipped rooms. If you’re serious about your future, this degree can open up a lot of doors for you.

You don’t need an MTech to work for companies with production facilities (like IOC or any pharmaceuticals). If you're not looking for a field job but rather an office or research position, you're likely overqualified for a plant job.

You can land a good engineering role…just check the positions available in various employment weeklies. A starting salary of 1–1.2 lakhs can be expected just based on the ‘IIT Delhi’ tag.

All the best!
