Being a student at IIT Delhi pursuing my B.Tech in Chemical Engineering has been an amazing journey so far. The placement process starts from the 7th semester, and I’ve seen many of my seniors bag offers with packages ranging from 10 to 25 LPA. This year, sectors like IT and Finance were the top recruiters, with around 1300 offers made. It's motivating to see such high placement numbers, and it gives me hope for my own future!
For CS, the average package is around 15 lakh per year. Some top performers in CS land packages worth crores from US companies like Facebook, Microsoft, and Twitter.
For other departments, the average package is about 7 lakh per year. Some students from these fields enter consulting and secure above-average packages.
Nowadays, many students opt for corporate jobs for 1–2 years, save some money, and then prepare for civil services.
Media often highlights the packages of CS toppers, leading many to believe that everyone earns crores after graduating from IIT. This is not the reality.
PS: CS is the future! As more people connect to the Internet, becoming a coder for a leading company should be your goal.
PPS: Corporate professionals typically gain 4 years of experience, then pursue an MBA in the USA. They build impressive CVs with the IIT tag, making admission to B-schools easier. Many continue to live in America, enjoying a stable career. It’s the classic “good life.”
I’m currently in the B.Tech Chemical Engineering program at IIT Delhi, and the placement scene here is quite impressive! This year, around 85% of our batch got placed, with the average package being approximately 15-20 LPA. Major companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are always on campus looking for fresh talent. It's a great feeling knowing that we have such strong support from recruiters.
‘Average package’ can be a misleading term. As a student in the four-year BTech program at IIT Delhi, I can say that the package or annual gross income varies significantly based on factors like salary structure, job location, and more. During campus placements, I witnessed packages ranging from 3 lacs p.a. to around 1.5 cr p.a. (considering the $ to INR conversion). If I had to give a rough estimate, I would say the average package is around 10 lpa, give or take 1 lpa.
Salary ranges vary significantly, even within the CSE department, as many students pursue foreign placements, often landing packages in crores.
However, I can confidently say that the average package for CSE graduates from IIT Delhi is around 30+ LPA.
