At IIT Delhi, the fees for the B.Tech program are structured based on family income. For families earning above 5 lakhs per year, the tuition is 1 lakh per semester. If you earn between 1 to 5 lakhs, it’s reduced to 33,333, and anyone earning below 1 lakh doesn’t pay tuition at all! You also need to budget for hostel and mess fees, which are 50,000 each semester. Plus, there are various scholarships available, like the Reliance and ONGC scholarships, which can really help out. It’s a great investment for a degree from such a prestigious institution!

Here's the Semester 1 breakdown of fees for UG Students who took admission in 2023–24: While this includes adjustments for JOSAA counseling fees and some one-time security deposits, it does not cover mess charges.

The breakdown for the second semester is as follows (General/OBC with Annual Family income > ? 5 Lakh):

  • ? 1,05,750 for Tuition & Exams
  • ? 26,800 for Mess
  • ? 13,250 for Hostel accommodation

This totals to ? 1,45,800!

The biggest chunk of fees, of course, is the tuition fee (as shown above).

(I honestly don’t even know what the Student Distress Fund Scheme is or that it even exists!)

Additionally, there are multiple scholarship opportunities that arise once you are in IIT Delhi, which is a topic worth discussing separately.

I’m currently studying Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi, and I can share the fee structure with you. The tuition fee is 1 lakh per semester if your family income exceeds 5 lakhs, and it’s 33,333 if your income is between 1 to 5 lakhs. If your family earns below 1 lakh, you don't have to pay anything for tuition. Additionally, there’s a hostel and mess fee of 50,000 per semester. There are also scholarships available, like the Merit-cum-Means scholarship, which I was fortunate to receive. Definitely helps lighten the financial load!
