CU, like other private colleges in the Punjab area, has its challenges. On the other hand, AKG stands out because it's located in the NCR, an area full of industries. It also has NAAC and NBA certifications, takes part in many national and international contests, and offers good placement opportunities. Good luck!

I can't speak for Chandigarh University, but having graduated from AKGEC, here's my take on it.

Honestly, just stay away from AKGEC. Seriously. It's tied to AKTU, and let me explain how exams go down. Sometimes, your answer sheets just vanish, only to show up later in the trash. Often, the questions are off-topic. A while back, in 2016, a friend's three out of five answer sheets were lost by AKTU. This wasn't an isolated case; many of my classmates went through the same thing. They had to sign a paper saying some of their papers were missing. Yet, somehow, the results came out just like that, with everyone getting scores. How do you get marks when there are no answer sheets to check?

This college is more of a hurdle than a help. It seems more focused on you getting high marks than actually learning engineering. There are no tech fests, no meaningful competitions, nothing substantial.

The faculty here? Not great. They struggle with basic questions and the curriculum is outdated. It's a mess.

If you're still considering it, let's talk about placements. Some claim they're good, but that's questionable. Can you name a reputable company that visits? The companies that do show up offer low-tier jobs with poor salaries. For instance, Amazon might come, but they offer a position in system support, which is basically a call center job for engineers. Is that what you want? Unless you're exceptionally talented and ready to deal with a lot of challenges, you'll struggle here. You might end up with a job you dislike, regretting your decision to join.

However, if you're driven and willing to fight through the challenges, you might succeed. I know a few people who did well, but they had to work hard and constantly battle the system, which is exhausting.

To clarify, Aekansh Kansal mentioned some folks in good companies. Most of them succeeded because they ignored the college and excelled on their own. The college had nothing to do with their achievements.

In short, choose your college carefully. If you can, avoid AKGEC.

Thanks for asking. I attended Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC). Honestly, I wasn't even aware that Chandigarh University offered engineering programs. This isn't surprising given the sheer number of engineering colleges scattered across India. Neither Chandigarh University nor AKGEC has a national reputation; they're mostly known within their respective states if they're any good.

AKGEC is affiliated with AKTU, meaning it's governed by the UP State University, while Chandigarh University is a deemed university, which means it has its own governing authority. Deemed universities, except for the top-notch ones, usually have more seats, impressive infrastructure, and lots of advertisements. They often have more financial resources and make big claims.

I've shared my thoughts on the pros and cons of AKGEC elsewhere, but in my view, it's an above-average choice if you're out of better options. For the first three years, you won't notice much difference between CU and AKGEC since neither is particularly outstanding. In the fourth year, CU has a few good companies visiting, selecting a small number of students out of thousands for lucrative packages. AKGEC doesn't see these companies. CU then uses these placements for promotional purposes. Overall, there's not a huge difference in placements between the two.

While AKGEC has its downsides (and upsides), in the later years, you might focus more on the negatives. However, I've never seen AKGEC boast on a grand scale. We do have students in top companies and institutions like IITs, but that's due to their own efforts, not the college's. AKGEC doesn't make exaggerated claims.

Some positives about CU are that it doesn't obsess over medals or exam performance compared to other colleges in AKTU. They also have a more relaxed discipline policy. Plus, you won't constantly hear how other colleges in the university are supposedly better, which can be quite annoying.

In the end, choosing between these two is like picking between a 5/10 and a 5.2/10; it's hard to say which is which. Feel free to ask if you want more info about AKGEC.

Edit: Some might get emotional about AKGEC, and while some points about it are true, it's important to see the bigger picture. I'd suggest avoiding tier-3 engineering colleges like AKGEC or CU unless you have no other options. The success of the top 1-2% of students is usually due to their own hard work, and colleges just take credit. These successful students, whether in IITs, IIMs, or top companies, achieve this through their own efforts.
