What is it like to study at IIT Bombay?

Being an MTech student at IIT Bombay is like experiencing the best student life India has to offer. Let's explore some of the perks that come with being an MTech student.

Hostels: MTech students enjoy the comfort of single rooms in the newest hostels, unlike BTech students who, despite their hard work to get in, often have to share rooms.

Girls: While courses like BTech, MBA, and PhD suffer from a low number of girls, MTech courses almost have an even split between boys and girls. MTech students often enjoy a balanced social life, which can make other students a bit envious. I remember during a dandiya event, some guys ended up playing without partners, which felt quite awkward, so I opted out of that scene.

Study Load: Unlike BTech students who have a heavy class schedule or MBA students who are swamped with presentations, MTech students typically have just 2-3 classes a day, 3-4 times a week. This gives them plenty of free time to enjoy campus life. Still, there are some MTech students who are exceptionally talented, often matching or surpassing their BTech peers.

I'm currently pursuing my B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay, and it's been an incredible journey. The curriculum is rigorous, but it prepares us well for real-world challenges. The professors are highly qualified and very supportive, offering extra help when needed.

I've heard that internship opportunities are great, with many big companies like Google and Microsoft coming to recruit. The placement process starts in the 7th semester, and I’m looking forward to it. The campus life is very lively, especially with major events like Mood Indigo and Techfest happening every year. Overall, studying here is a fantastic experience!

Studying at IIT Bombay for my B.Tech in Chemical Engineering has been a transformative experience. The curriculum is highly relevant and designed to prepare us for real-world applications. If you're at IIT Bombay or any IIT, the experience is pretty similar. On weekdays, your day is packed with classes and labs. If you're also a teaching assistant, you'll spend some time grading papers or conducting tutorials. These tutorials are extra classes, usually in the afternoon or evening, where you help undergrads with problems from lectures.

In the evenings, there's a chance to enjoy sports on campus. As a senior, you get a lot of say in extracurricular activities and events in your hostel, although this can vary depending on the hostel.

Weekends are more relaxed. You can join campus clubs, learn new things on your own, catch a movie, or play video games like Counter-Strike, which is popular among undergrads. If your thesis is demanding, you might be busy in labs, reading research papers, and working on experiments and data analysis.

Then comes the placement season after about 1.5 years. By then, you might have decided whether you want to pursue a PhD or start working. Your preparation and stress levels will depend on that choice.

Those two years will seem to fly by, trust me on that.
