Which one should I choose between IIM Kozhikode or IIT Bombay SJMSOM? Why?
Both IIM Kozhikode and IIT Bombay are great institutions in their own right. So it is very difficult to choose between them.

- Rankings: IIT Bombay SJMSOM was ranked #10 by the NIRF Management Ranking 2023. Whereas, IIM Kozhikode was ranked #3.
- Faculty: IIT Bombay faculty is highly experienced. There are 312 professors and 167 associate professors in the department.
- Placements: In 2024, the MBA students of IIT Bombay recorded the highest CTC of INR 72 LPA, and the average CTC of INR 28.01 LPA.
IIM Kozhikode's students, on the other hand, recorded the highest CTC of INR 72.02 LPA, and the average CTC of INR 27 LPA.
Even though IIT Bombay is ranked much lower to IIM Kozhikode, it delivers an equally accomplished faculty, and equally good placements for MBA. Moreover, as Bombay is one of the metropolitan cities (and the financial capital of India), IIT Bombay has a locational advantage over IIM Kozhikode.
Thus, IIT Bombay is a better choice for an MBA.

If you are interested in management and business, IIM Kozhikode and have no financial constraints, then IIM Kozhikode is a good choice but if money is the issue, the go for IIT Bombay SJMSOM. Ultimately, the decision should be based on your personal interests and career goals.

You should choose IIM Kozhikode. SJMSOM is a good B-School and maintained a decent record over the last few years. However, choosing IIM Kozhikode will offer you the brand value advantages of IIM and long-term returns.
IIM Kozhikode has a better faculty base for management. You will also get good opportunities to attend lectures by some of the famous visiting faculty.
IIM Kozhikode placements are pretty good as well. As per the 2022 placement highlights, the median CTC offered to the students is around INR 26.5 LPA.

My brother is an alumnus at IIM Kozhikode. A few years back, he was in the same dilemma that you are right now. Keeping in mind the brand value and the long-term return, he opted for it.
- In the last few years, SJMSOM is performing well. Apart from the brand value that IIM Kozhikode adds, there are many other advantages of graduating from here. If you pursue your MBA from SJMSOM, you will be introducing yourself as an MBA grad from IIT Bombay.
- Even though IIT B has a management branch, it is primarily a B.Tech college. Hence, the faculties and college life mostly depend on the engineering curriculum.
- The faculties of IIM Kozhikode have better industry knowledge. The visiting faculties are among the best in the industry. Even though in term short, both are at par; the tag of an IIM will give you long-term benefit.
- IIM Kozhikode also has a good placement record. In the 2021 placements, the average CTC offered at the institute was 22 LPA.
Additionally, IIM K has the most beautiful campus among all the IIMs.
