Mechanical is one of the oldest departments of IIEST Shibpur.It is well known for its internship and placement records.
A good number of mechanical students grab core jobs during the placement season. Last year, 61 out of 75 eligible students were successfully placed from B.Tech mechanical.

- Location: Situated in the heart of the city, NIT Patna has many coaching centers for GATE and IES right around the campus.

The first thing you need to understand is that a college's worth does not depend on its placements. It’s much more than that. Even if you don’t land a high package you might learn better skills than at any other college. The same is the case with KJ Somaiya, it offers the following advantages which overlook its average placement statistics

Can I get mechanical engineering at VSSUT Burla with an AIR of 1.19 lakh in the JEE Mains (I am from general category)?
No, unfortunately, it’s not possible to get a seat in Mechanical Engineering at VSSUT with such a low rank. Usually, the cutoff for the general category is around 60-70k and your rank is far from the cutoff rank. However, if you are adamant about getting a mechanical seat you can opt for the branch change facility under which the top 10% of students of a branch can change their branch. For this, you need to secure a good CGPA in the semesters. But this option is very risky and unpredictable so consider all options.
I graduated from IIT Roorkee studying mechanical engineering with a 6+ CGPA. Now I am unable to find any job. How do I go about it?
If you are extremely desperate for a job, you should switch domains instead. 6 years is a long time for one to realize that their domain did not offer them any good opportunities.
Firstly, give up the idea of core jobs and open yourself to IT, the most demanded discipline right now.
For those who have basic knowledge of coding, things will become a tad bit easier. But if you are new to the coding world, don’t worry, you will be able to cope well. Start with learning one programming language preferably JAVA. After gaining a certain level of knowledge, appear for either of these exams
- AMCAT - Easy evaluation with a plethora of noncore-opportunities from mediocre to average package
- Elitmus - Quality assessment, a bit challenging for beginners but opens doors for high-paying jobs at MNCs. Additionally, your IIT tag will help.
Based on your inclination and level of preparation choose anyone one of these 2 exams and wait for excellent job opportunities.
If you are still adamant about Mechanical, ask any of your friends who work in a reputed firm to drop your resume or refer you for internships that can be later converted to full-time jobs.
What is your review of mechanical engineering department, Tezpur University?
One of my friends studied Mechanical at Tezpur University. Let me share his experiences and knowledge about the college. He, being a student there, will know the intricacies of the college and how they function.
- Faculty: The mechanical department hosts a really good faculty. Most of them are good at teaching and all of them have a great research-oriented mindset.
- Projects: About 80% of the projects are based on numerical simulations. These include optimization, analysis, modeling, developing CFD solvers, Comsol modeling and the rest are mainly experimental.
- Specialization: The department mainly started its M.Tech course in 2013 with a specialization in Applied mechanics. The Thermal and Fluid Engineering specialization began in 2016 and from 2018 onwards, another specialization in Machine Design was also started. The department is definitely growing with time.

Overall, the mechanical department at Tezpur University is not as good as IITs but it is much better than many private as well as newly built NITs in the country.
What is the average package for mechanical engineering at VSSUT Burla?
Usually, mechanical engineering students in VSSUT get placed in software companies. Around 10% of students get into Core Jobs with an average package of INR 5.5-6 Lakhs and the rest 60-70% get Software Jobs with an average package of around INR 3.2-.3.5 LPA. The reason it’s the average package is not at or with NITS and IITs or colleges is because of its poor location. Nevertheless, VSSUT is known to produce talented graduates.
In 2022, BTech Mechanical Engineering students of VSSUT received 80 offers and the highest package stood at INR 7.6 LPA.

How are the placements in VIT Pune (mechanical)?
I will shed some light on the placements for B.Tech Mechanical at VIT Pune-
The placement figures aren’t very promising. 26.4% students were placed from B.Tech Mechanical 2022. Many students aren’t eligible for the placements due to backlogs or low CGPA. Some companies require a minimum of 60-65% in 10th, 12th and graduation.
Many don’t opt for placements. Instead, they prepare for UPSC or opt for higher studies.These factors contribute to the low placement percentage. The average package stands at around 4-5 LPA. During 2022 placements, the highest package was INR 9LPA, and the average package was INR 4.77 LPA.
The companies mostly come seeking sales engineers, very few come for design engineers. Some offer different profiles in a production plant.
For B.Tech Mechanical, VIT Pune is the next best option after COEP/VJTI. However, the placement figures aren’t very promising.
