How are the placements in VIT Pune (mechanical)??

AC
Abhinav Chowdhury Posted On : October 17th, 2023
Lives in Pune, Maharashtra, India

I will shed some light on the placements for B.Tech Mechanical at VIT Pune-

The placement figures aren’t very promising. 26.4% students were placed from B.Tech Mechanical 2022. Many students aren’t eligible for the placements due to backlogs or low CGPA. Some companies require a minimum of 60-65% in 10th, 12th and graduation.

Many don’t opt for placements. Instead, they prepare for UPSC or opt for higher studies. These factors contribute to the low placement percentage. The average package stands at around 4-5 LPA. During 2022 placements, the highest package was INR 9LPA, and the average package was INR 4.77 LPA.

The companies mostly come seeking sales engineers, very few come for design engineers. Some offer different profiles in a production plant.

For B.Tech Mechanical, VIT Pune is the next best option after COEP/VJTI. However, the placement figures aren’t very promising.

How's NIT Agartala for the mechanical branch?

PC
Pradeep Chowdhuri Posted On : September 18th, 2023
Studied at NIT Agartala

Here is a detailed review of the NIT Agartala Mechanical branch in the form of pros and cons:

Pros

  1. The professors are very approachable and assist you academically.
  2. The pedagogy adopted by professors is excellent and they ensure students understand the concepts through ppts, animations, and videos.
  3. Some of the faculties are very knowledgeable in their respective field of interest.
  4. NIT Agartala Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the most prestigious and well-known branches in the whole of North-East India.
  5. The placement scenario is decent and around 80% of placement scenario has been recorded recently.

Cons

  • The lab facilities are outdated and most of the equipment is obsolete. The equipment of Fluid Machines Lab hasn’t been working for a long time now.
  • There is not even a single program to learn designing software like CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other software that form a crucial part of the Mechanical Branch.
  • The department does not have provisions for coaching for GATE, CAT, GRE, or other competitive exams.
  • Professors lay more emphasis on getting good grades and packages rather than learning and gaining knowledge. No importance is given to research work or exploring new insights into technology and Entrepreneurship.
  • Some of the faculties are underqualified and have no teaching or communication skills at all.

Hope this helps you make a fine decision!

Which is better, manit bhopal chemical or sgsits indore mechanical?

NT
Nivedita Trivedi Posted On : November 11th, 2023
Lives in Indore

First of all, your field of interest matters the most. If you are interested in Chemical, opt for MANIT Bhopal. But if you are inclined towards Mechanical, opt for SGSITS Indore.

MANIT will offer you the prestigious NIT tag. But as a student of SGSITS, I would like to highlight some advantages of joining Mechanical at my college-

  1. Prithampura is the industrial hub of Indore. It has many industries, where you’ll easily get a job as an SGSITS student. Most of these industries visit the campus for placements as well.
  1. SGSITS is located at the heart of Indore city. So you can easily access coaching centers for UPSC, GATE, CAT, etc. These coaching centers are located very close to the campus. The students of our college perform really well in all these competitive exams.

Based on the limited information provided by me, I hope you get a rough idea on which path will be best for you.

Studied at NIT Agartala

As a B.Tech Mechanical student at NIT Agartala, I will be sharing a bit about my branch-

  • Facilities- NIT Agartala offers one of the best workshop facilities. The workshops are equipped with up-to-date machines. Two of these are- Machine Shop and Sheet Metal Shop.
  • Faculty- The faculty is a mix of good and bad teachers. Some might appear a bit hostile, but you’ll have to manage with them. Others are very helpful and caring, and will always provide guidance when approached.
  • Placements- Placement-wise, Mechanical, and CS are the best branches over here. Skilled students end up with multiple offers too. Almost all eligible students of B.Tech mechanical get job offers during campus placements. Well-known brands like Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, Tata Motors, Maruti, Ashok Leyland, Fiat, Tata Technologies, L&T, etc. visit the campus with job offers for mechanical engineers.

Mechanical does get boring at times. However, if you are deeply interested in this branch, NIT Agartala is a good choice for you.

Can I leave engineering mechanics as an exception in the JNTUH R16?

HJ
Hirdekh Jain Posted On : August 3rd, 2023
Studied at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (2016)

As per the Academic Regulations R16 of JNTUH, once you have secured 192 credits you can leave 02 courses (06 credits). These might be

  • one open elective and one professional elective subject
  • two professional elective subjects for optional dropout,

As a result, you will have a total of 186 credits for your performance evaluation. Only these 186 credits will be taken into consideration for the calculation of your CGPA and the same will be mentioned in your grade card.

However, it’s important to note that you have to secure all 192 credits. The option of leaving 2 subjects is just to improve your CGPA.

From the above information, it can be concluded that you cannot be exempted from the Engineering Mechanics course because it is one of the Foundation courses of Engineering and not an elective.

Which is advisable, ceramic engineering at NIT, Rourkela or mechanical engineering at VSSUT, Burla?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : August 21st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Here is a comparison between Ceramic Engineering at NIT Rourkela and Mechanical at VSSUT-

  1. Brand Name- NIT Rourkela carries the NIT tag and has a bigger brand name than VSSUT. NIT R ranks higher than VSSUT in various rankings.
  2. Placements- Placements for Mechanical at VSSUT are good. Core companies like TATA Steel, Hyundai, Vedanta, and Hindalco visit VSSUT for placements and offer good packages. However, due to high competition only around 40% ME students get into core companies. Around 40% of students from Ceramic at NIT Rourkela are placed in core companies. The number of students in Ceramic is small so the competition is less. Non-core companies also offer placements to Ceramic students in various sectors like Analytics, Trading, and Coaching. A few startups also visit for recruitment.
  3. Research Scope- NIT Rourkela has better research facilities than VSSUT. As Ceramics is related to materials, it has a lot of research scope. You can go for a foreign internship after your 3rd year or opt for an MS after your B.Tech. Getting a foreign research internship or an MS seat is easier for a NITian.
  4. Campus - The campuses of both are quite big. However, NIT Rourkela has a bigger, better, and more developed campus. The cleanliness and other facilities at NIT R hostels are better than VSSUT hostels.
  5. Fests and Other Activities- Though VSSUT has good fests, the fests of NIT R are far superior. NIT R has a great club culture. There is a club for everything at NIT R, including Robotics, Entrepreneurship, Media, Dance, Drama, Debate, Art, Music, Social Work, etc. NIT R also has a big swimming pool, two stadiums with floodlights, a Tennis court, a Basketball court, and around six gyms.

Based on these parameters, I would recommend you join Ceramics at NIT Rourkela. However, I would also suggest you talk to the alumni of both colleges before arriving at a decision.

Which one would be better for Mechanical Engineering: NIT Surathkal or BITS Hyderabad campus?

AG
Aikantika Ghosh Posted On : September 20th, 2020
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (2017)

Both the colleges mentioned here are one of the most reputed colleges in the country and have excellent academic as well as placement records available. BITS Hyderabad offers a BE and NIT Surathkal offers a BTech program in mechanical engineering.

Admission- BITS Hyderabad conducts their own entrance exam called BITSAT while NIT Surathkal admits through JEE Main only for the BTech Mechanical Engineering program. The total fees for BITS Hyderabad and NIT Surathkal are 16.73 LPA and 5.39 LPA.

The closing cut off for Mechanical Engineering at these institutes are as follows.

  • BITS Hyderabad – 275 in BITSAT

  • NIT Surathkal – 8483 in JEE Main

Placement-

BITS Hyderabad- has been quite consistent in their placement statistics, also as the University is attached to Birla Institutes, the industrial exposure is very practical. The highest package received this year is 39.5 LPA and the average package was of 11 LPA.

NIT Surathkal – The placement rate of NIT Surathkal is very impressive. The highest package bagged by the students this year is 39 LPA and the average package was around 14.15 LPA. The top recruiters are Hero, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Citi Bank, Deutsche Bank.

Some of the key points of these colleges are given below.

BITS Hyderabad:

  • The institute focuses on practical knowledge and updates its curriculum from time to time to make the best out of it.

  • Presently, BITS Hyderabad is having an expansion phase and plans to add a built-up area of almost 50% of the present area.

  • Furthermore, it already has 65 research projects that are ongoing in the campus, most of which are supported by the prominent funding agencies from across India and abroad.

NIT Surathkal:

  • It is an Institute of National Importance. Situated in Mangalore, this institution offers numerous PG and UG programs in various fields of science, engineering, and management.

  • It consists of 11 support centers and 14 academic departments.

  • NITK Surathkal was previously ranked 6th amongst the country's top engineering colleges by Outlook India, 16th by India Today, and 14th by The Week.

So coming to the question if the intention is to explore college life at fullest without having any financial constraints and want a good industrial exposure then BITS Hyderabad would be a better option. On the other hand, if one wants a campus that has an equal reputation and almost a quarter in fee structure then NIT Surathkal would be the better option.

Which branch should I take in NIT Silchar mechanical or ECE?

MR
Moitrayi Roy Posted On : August 25th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Silchar

In my opinion, you alone can decide the best branch for yourself and others can only guide you. If you are evaluating and comparing branches based on placements, then trust me it won’t help in the long run. Unless you are genuinely interested in the branch, you won’t be able to pursue a career in it for a long time.

Mechanical

  • If you are inclined towards stuff like automobiles, heavy machinery, or design, or want to work in a good PSU then choose Mechanical.
  • One needs to be aware of the fact that this branch is completely core-based so you will be studying only core concepts for 4 years.
  • The placements of core mechanical are quite better than ECE.
  • Students of the Mechanical branch can go for Mechanical-related jobs only and most software companies won't allow Mechanical students to sit for their placements.
  • Mechanical has more PSU placements but Mechanical has much higher and tougher competition compared to ECE.

ECE

  • If you are interested in small electronic devices, Arduino, IoT, Integrated circuits and diodes, fabrications, and chip design, or want to pursue a career in coding and programming then you should go for ECE.
  • This branch is a mix of core ECE and software/IT, i.e. ECE's major role will be played by software only during placements.
  • ECE core can be helpful if you want to pursue higher education.

So, make sure you go for the branch that intrigues you and not the one that offers better placements.
