Should I take the biotechnology branch in NIT Raipur?
I am an alumnus of Biotechnology at NIT Raipur. Initially, I entered this program because of the NIT tag of this institution. But with time, I developed a keen interest in this branch.
Here are some highlights of Biotech at NIT Raipur-
- Biotech is a great branch that demands hard work and dedication.
- With the increase in interdisciplinary projects, Biotechnology contributes to other fields as well, like Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanics, etc. These projects are innovative and interesting.
- The college library is good and contains an ample number of relevant books on Biotechnology.
- The faculty is very supportive, approachable and helpful. Not only will they help you in academics, but you can also ask them for their guidance in any projects or research work.
- In case of doubts and for better learning, you check out NPTEL, Coursera, and Khan Academy.
- If you lose an interest in this field, you can eventually go for an MBA.
- A B.Tech in Biotechnology might not fetch you a satisfactory job. You’ll most probably go for a Master’s later on.
- The field covers a broad range of topics. After understanding all the disciplines covered in this branch, you can ultimately choose your research area.

- According to my experience, you should go with ME CS from BITS Pilani. It will provide you with the latest research facilities and industry collaborations that will be helpful in your future career endeavours.
- BITS Pilani focuses on practical learning with real-world projects. You will also get better placement opportunities upon course completion as BITS Pilani has an excellent placement cell for its CS students.
- IIIT Bangalore is still considered to be in the developing stage while the diverse community with vibrant campus life enhance the overall learning experience.
- BITS Pilani also has a very strong alumni network that aids in promising career prospects in the field of computer science.
What is the criteria to get admission in Mount Carmel College Bangalore for B.Com.?
One of my friends studied at Mount Carmel College. According to her, to get admission in B.Com, it is mandatory for the candidate to satisfy the eligibility criteria.
- The admissions are based on the merit list which is released by Mount Carmel College.
- The merit list and cut-off marks vary from course to course.
- You can apply for admissions by filling the application form. Check the eligibility norms prior to it.
- The cut-off and merit list will be generated by the official authority. It will be based on the 12th marks.
- Final admissions will be based on the merit list.
Those who clear the released cutoff marks will get admissions. After the admission procedure, the documents provided by the candidate are verified, thus concluding the process.
What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at CSVTU?
One of my friends recently graduated from CSVTU. According to him if you abide by certain rules your college life will be easier.
- The most important thing to become an engineer is to choose whether you will go for a job or higher studies, then prepare accordingly.
- Start preparing for GATE/CAT/XMAT examinations from your second year of engineering and try not to have a backlog in any engineering exams.
- You need to understand that the marks and university do not make much impact. It is your profile and skills that matter.
- To attend all the college functions, sports events, etc. This will help in your holistic development.
- Do study from textbooks as per syllabus, and practice questions.
- Solve previous year’s university questions. Try doing a proper revision before any exam.
- Instead of mugging up theories, learn and understand the concept thoroughly.
Overall, try enjoying your college life as this is a major place where you can grow and create your individuality. Along with academics try to be also enthusiastic about extracurriculars as they will be beneficial as well.

How is life at NIT Raipur for a B.Tech student for 4 years?
Every NIT and IIT has a plethora of brilliant and multi-talented students from all over India. Luckily, I have few friends from NIT Raipur who are now alumni. My friends had a mixed experience there, which is enough to give you a gist.
- Campus: NIT Raipur doesn’t have a very vast campus to boast of. However, you won’t be lacking any basic facility there. There are basketball, volleyball, football and cricket grounds for sports lovers.
- Mess/Canteen: The hostel mess is just satisfactorywith every Sunday afternoons being overly crowded. You will see people climbing up the tables to draw fresh hot 'Puris' and burning their hands. You will also see a few people fighting over the amount of paneer and Chicken pieces with the mess staff. My friends usually went for cheaper options like outside restaurants like Punjabi Dhaba, Bajrangi Dhaba, Little Hut, etc.
- Hostel life: Just like every college, people living in hostels have the best college life. However, due to less number of hostels, many students live outside. If you are a girl, then you will face more harsh rules like no entry after 6 pm in the evening except in case of special permissions, etc. On Friday/ Wednesday evenings you can see most couples roaming out. Every Wednesday night the whole boys' hostel will be empty due to the cheapest movie tickets.
- Peers: You will be interacting with so many talents from all over India, you will never be alone. Also, ragging is not practiced at all. Yes, seniors may approach for interaction which is nothing to worry about. You might need their guidance and help later.
Every year students also organize fests like Electrika, Samar, etc. There is no doubt that you will enjoy your duration at the institute.
Is NIT Srinagar a safe place to stay and study?
yes, NIT Srinagar is safe to stay and study. the concerns people have are understandable given J&K's history, but the actual student experience has been positive for most students in recent years.
the realistic picture:
- NIT Srinagar is a centrally-funded NIT and has a large residential campus. security on campus is maintained
- most students from outside J&K who study there report feeling safe within the campus premises
- the city situation has improved significantly after 2019. Srinagar is relatively normal on most days
- internet restrictions have historically been a concern — there were periods of no internet or slow connectivity. this has improved significantly but occasional restrictions still happen
- weather: extreme winters (heavy snowfall Dec-Feb). the campus shuts for weeks sometimes. this affects academic calendars
genuine concerns worth factoring in:
- going out into Srinagar city independently is fine for most of the year but requires situational awareness
- the initial adjustment period can be challenging for students from other states due to cultural differences
- airport connectivity is good — getting home during holidays is not difficult
overall: most students who've studied at NIT Srinagar give it a positive review for safety. the academics are solid, the campus is well-maintained, and the scenic location is genuinely beautiful. treat it like any other NIT with some extra winter and connectivity considerations.
What are the rules in Hindustan University, Chennai?
Hindustan University is lenient in comparison to other institutions in Chennai. But there are some rules that you should follow as its student-
- Always wear your identity card inside the campus. Otherwise, you’ll be caught by the vigilance officers. Without an id card, you won’t be entitled as a student of this university.
- You can bring your vehicles inside the campus. However, be sure to wear a helmet.
- This is quite obvious, do not use your phone while the teacher is taking a lecture. Also, don’t use your phone when standing near Java Green. Your phone will be taken by vigilance people, and it won’t be returned easily.
- Return your library book within the allotted time. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay a fine.
- A minimum of 75% attendance is required to appear in the semester exam. But even if you have around 50% attendance, you can appear in the exam after paying a fine.
Students usually don’t take the rules seriously. However, I would recommend you follow these basic rules to not get into any trouble.
What type of medical checkups do they conduct at AIIMS Delhi while admitting students in MBBS?
Every AIIMS conducts several medical checkups before admitting students in M.B.B.S. Some of these include
- blood tests
- ECG
- Eye tests
- Normal Height and weight parameters
Rarely does anyone fail these tests as they are just for general purposes. The reason these tests are conducted is to prepare you for the dangerous environment you will be working in. It’s better to know the personal health information of the students to prevent any major issues. For instance, those with low WBCs must take more precautions as they are more vulnerable to diseases like TB. However, these tests should be taken seriously as one of my friends shared a story that was really shocking. A student’s ECG was being tested and some issue was found.
Further diagnosis revealed a hole in his heart. Had these tests not been conducted his condition would have worsened.
Is it true that students get single room in AIIMS Bhubaneswar from 3rd years onwards?
No, AIIMS Bhubaneswar students get single rooms from the 2nd year and not the 3rd year. The first-year students are given a separate area so as to minimize ragging.
In the first year, girls are allotted flats where 3 girls share two rooms, one kitchen, and one washroom/bathroom. In the boys' hostel, there are double occupancy rooms along with a common washroom.
From the 2nd year, everyone gets a single room but with a common washroom. It’s compulsory for all AIIMS Bhubaneswar students to stay in the hostel and there is no concept of a day scholar here.
