One college can be better than the other in one aspect but not in another aspect. So we need to look into individual factors while comparing NIT Silchar and AEC.
- Academics : Academically both NITS and AEC are at a similar level. To be a topper you will have to work hard on your own at either college.
- Location : Location-wise, AEC in Guwahati fares better than NIT in Silchar a very remote area. Although both the institutes are in Assam, AEC is in the heart of the North East and enjoys good connectivity while Silchar is 340 km away from Guwahati. AEC has many places to explore in and around the city while NIT Silchar does not.
- Placements : Both institutes have a good number of companies visiting during placements but NIT Silchar attracts the better lot mainly because of the NIT tag. AEC has mediocre placements and the highest package is around IN 20 LPA while the highest package of NIT Silchar recorded last year stood at INR 44 LPA.
- Brand : Engineering students value brand names and tags a lot and NIT is a brand that is recognizable in every part of the country. So even if you dont belong to the top NITs, the NIT tag will help you stand out among a crowd of engineers.
- Campus life: Both colleges encourage extracurricular activities to a certain extent but in NIT you get to experience events like Inter NIT Championships for any Sports/Robotics Competition etc
It's safe to conclude that NIT Silchar will offer a wider range of opportunities and exposure than AEC.

Which is better: IT at IIIT Allahabad or CSE at BIT Mesra?
One of my friends chose CSE at BIT Mesra over IT at IIIT Allahabad. However, he regretted his decision and after a month, got admission into IIIT Allahabad IT through the CSAB spot round.
BIT Mesra has a huge campus, however, its student intake is much higher as compared to IIIT Allahabad. Even in terms of location, Allahabad is a better choice than Mesra.
In terms of placements, the average package for BIT CSE stood at INR 19.27 LPA 2022. At IIIT Allahabad, the average package for B.Tech stood at INR 30.68 LPA during the same year.
The course fee is also much more affordable at IIIT Allahabad. The total course fee for B.Tech IT from IIIT Allahabad is INR 8,44,700, while at BIT, the B.Tech CSE course fee is INR 13,04,500 (does not include the hostel fees at both).
Thus, I would suggest you choose IT at IIIT Allahabad over CSE at BIT Mesra.
