Which option should I choose, Jadavpur University CSE or NIT Durgapur CSE?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : September 7th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Here are some key points about both colleges which will help you in your decision-making-

  • Campus Life- The campus life at NIT Durgapur is much better. You’ll get ample freedom to play sports, to party, etc. You can do everything on campus, at all hours. The senior-junior and peer-to-peer bonding is great over here. There is relatively more cultural diversity in the NIT Durgapur campus.
  • Academics- The CSE department of NIT Durgapur isn’t good. If you are serious about academics and quality education, NIT Durgapur CSE isn’t a good choice. The quality of research is very poor, apart from the DST-FIST project. Have a look at the faculty profile of both institutions to get a clearer picture.
  • Placements - On ground level, CSE placements are better at JU. For a smaller number of students, it receives the same number of companies during campus placements. Also, bigshots offering high packages visit the JU campus exclusively.
  • Startups - NIT Durgapur doesn’t provide many opportunities for startups/entrepreneurship.
  • Higher studies - Both are at par if you wish to pursue higher studies in India. However, for foreign colleges/universities, an NIT tag will be more advantageous.
  • ROI- The ROI for JU is much higher. This is because its tuition fees are much more affordable.

According to me, a CSE from Jadavpur University is a better option.

Is it worthwhile to do an MBA from Amity Lucknow?

SC
Shreyanshi Chaurasia Posted On : May 11th, 2021
MBA Human Resources and Digital Marketing, Amity University, Lucknow (2018)

Each and every University has its own positive and negative aspects which makes it unique. Let's go through a few of these aspects in order to conclude if Amity University is the perfect institute for you or not.

Positive aspects:

  • You must maintain 75% attendance by any means or else you won't be allowed to take exams. You will end up attending most of the classes and ultimately will be benefited.
  • You will get amazing exposure at this University as numerous seminars, conferences are held frequently and a lot of guest lecturers visit the campus.
  • Faculties are highly qualified but teaching skills few are average.
  • You will get ample industrial exposure as you get to meet a lot of people from various industries during different interactive sessions.
  • The curriculum is up-to-date and us framed according to the latest industrial requirements. You even have a choice to opt for your favorite subject in certain areas.
  • Examinations are not too difficult and you can score well without having to mug up the whole book. Management studies are majorly based on case studies and it's quite easy to understand.
  • Placement records are pretty good. Top companies like Colgate, Reliance Jio, Kent RO, ICICI, Vodafone visit the campus.

Negative aspects:

  • Hands-on sessions and case studies are barely conducted in class.
  • Fees are quite high compared to the ROI.
  • One must be self-motivated and you won't get much external push. But if you approach faculties on your own, they will definitely help you out.
  • Not much peer-to-peer learning could be seen.
  • Internal assessments are very informal and marks are given randomly without any parameters.

If you are a strong-motivated individual who doesn't give in to peer pressure, Amity University is the perfect institute for you as the opportunities are countless. Certainly there are few negative aspects like obsolete systems which are common in most of the Universities.

What did you take away from IIT BHU after completing your degree?

PG
Prajukta Ghose Posted On : June 16th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

Everyone’s college holds a special place in their lives and they take a part of it within them. Academics is not the only thing that your college teaches you. In fact, it helps you grow as a person and the difference can be felt in your personality when you join and when you leave. There are many things that IIT BHU taught my brother who still cherishes his memories and college days.

Empathy: College life at IIT BHU or at any college brings you close to the lowest strata of the society and you end up befriending them be it the cleaning staff or the owner of eateries. You realise that as much as you want to get successful you can never stop associating yourself with these people.

Contentment: Another major thing that college life teaches you is satisfaction and contentment with the simplest things. You can find happiness in a plate of Maggi at HG, or Chai and chole samosa at LC, bun-Makhan at Lanka, cold coffee at VT, and lassi at Pahelwans.

Substance over Style: IIT is a place where you won’t be judged on the basis of your scooter or clothes or looks. You can stay just the way you are and you will learn to glamorize simplicity,

Accept failure: Those who haven’t made it into their favorite branch or IIT already have experienced failure and thus teach you a lot in life. You learn to accept the biggest digest with the biggest smiles.

Why are the placements at IIT Guwahati so poor as compared to other IITs?

SD
Shubhangi Dutt Posted On : May 3rd, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (2022)

The placement scenario of only a few IITs is considered good. Some of these include IIT Delhi, Kanpur, Bombay, Kgp, and Madras.

Although these IITs witness intense competition in placements, the fact that some tech giants only visit these IITs makes their placement scenario better than other IITs. A few of the top companies include Google, Apple, Uber, Facebook, etc. Many consulting giants such as Mckinsey, BCG, Bain, AT Kearney, etc. offer roles in finance, software, banking, investment banking, etc. These roles are offered in plenty around 30-60 at these IITs. Other companies do visit other IITs and the salary offered is also similar.

What is the procedure to get a transcript from Thapar University?

YS
Yashraj Sule Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Studied Computer Science at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (2011)

You will have to write an application to the deputy registrar of Academics. Alternatively, you can also send an email to Deputy Registrar with your application.

As far as transcripts are concerned, you need to send the complete address of the universities for which you are applying. Along with this, send two sets of your mark sheet photocopies and degree certificate.

These sets should be authorized by the college and the other set should be duly notarized by a legal or commissioner of oaths or self.

Lastly, your transcripts will only be sent once the administration receives the photocopies of your mark sheets and degree certificates. Overall, it is a pretty simple process. Your work should get done smoothly.

How is the campus life in NIT Agartala?

KP
Kalyan Pande Posted On : September 18th, 2023
Lives in Agartala

Honestly, the campus life in NIT Agartala is very disappointing especially if you are coming from a good city. It does not have the infrastructure of big private colleges like Amity or LPU. However, I believe college life is more about the people you are surrounded with and not the infrastructure.

It will be a new experience staying in the Northeast and exploring new cultures and traditions. You will be interacting with the locals and also sharing hostels as well as classes with them.

A few students might face discrimination on the basis of region. The campus has a lot to offer in terms of sports. The faculty are very rigid and unapproachable. The gender ratio is also not very good.

Overall, the campus life at NIT Agartala is a blend of good and bad experiences depending on your company.

Which is better for ECE, PES University, or RV?

RS
Rana Mukesh Singh Posted On : September 22nd, 2020
Studied at RV College of Engineering

Both the universities mentioned here are private universities and have some excellent placement as well as academic records. Full time 4 year ECE UG degree is being provided by both of the colleges. Although as far as ECE is concerned RVCE is having an upper edge over the PES University as it has better faculty for the specified department.

Admissions: PES University offers a B.Tech and RV offers a BE course in ECE. Both the Colleges consider the marks of KCET or CET and the 12th marks by creating the merit list. The minimum requirement is 60% in class 12th with a good Karnataka CET score to get admission to both of these colleges.

Cut off the rank for ECE at these institutes are as follows.

  • PES University - 1000 in KCET

  • RVCE- 271 KCET

The first-year course fee for BTech ECE at PES University is 3.3 Lakhs, while the BE CSE at RVCE costs around 10 Lakhs per annum.

Placements: Both of these colleges have excellent placement records, but one thing which needs to be noted is that there are few core companies visiting the PES University, while RVCE is a bit better in terms of placement for the specific department ECE department due to the core companies visiting the campus every year.

RV College of Engineering-

  • According to the 2020 placement statistics the highest CTC was INR 52 LPA.

  • While the average package was 8.63 LPA.

  • Almost 249 Companies visited the campus with Deloitte, Adani Group, Kirloskar Oil Engines, Accenture, and Adobe Systems India Pvt Ltd, included.

PES University-

  • There were almost 56 participants in the campus placement with top recruiting companies like Deloitte, Amazon, JP Morgan, LinkedIn, Flipkart, Tech Mahindra, Mercedes Benz, Cleartrip, Intel, etc.

  • The highest package offered was of 48 LPA while the average package offered was of 6.8 LPA.

RVCE would be a bit better than PES University as far as the above statistics are noted. If one does not have any financial constraints as RV college of engineering is quite expensive, then it might be the best option for pursuing ECE.
