Everyone says K J Somaiya is better than TAPMI in all terms. Still, TAPMI is ahead of K J in rankings by almost every magazine or site. Why?

DK
Divya Kaur Posted On : July 8th, 2021
Studied PGDM from T. A. Pai Management Institute (2011)

TAPMI is considered to be much better than K J Somaiya. I can say this because my brother has completed his education from TAPMI and I have some friends who have studied in K J Somaiya.

  • TAPMI has been AACSB accredited for the past few years now. It's not that simple for colleges to attain and maintain that accreditation. TAPMI is ahead in rankings because it deserves to be ranked above K J Somaiya.
  • K J Somaiya provides courses for a lesser amount of money as compared to TAPMI and this is one of the major reasons why people tend to get confused between TAPMI and K J Somaiya.
  • Both K J Somaiya and TAPMI are considered to be Tier 2 colleges in India. TAPMI has been able to make students good leaders.
  • The only advantage that K J Somaiya has over TAPMI is the location. K J Somaiya is situated In Mumbai which can be of great benefit for many students.
  • TAPMI has helped over 400 students to get placed every year. The average package offered by companies to students of TAPMI comes around to be INR 10.6 Lakhs per annum. Some top recruiters of TAPMI include Deloitte, Microsoft, and Salesforce.
  • The campus and infrastructure of TAPMI are also a lot better than K J Somaiya.

Hence, TAPMI is better than K J Somaiya and deserves a better ranking in magazines and websites.

Which B-school should I choose amongst TAPMI PGDM, Great Lakes PGDM and KJ Somaiya PGDM?

AS
Aditi Sinha Posted On : May 26th, 2022
PGDM Finance & Analytics, T. A. Pai Management Institute (2018)

TAPMI PGDM is the best option among these. It is a premier B-School. It has AMBA accreditation for all three of the PGDM programs, i.e. PGDM, PGDM-HR, and PGDM-BKFS.

TAPMI placements are excellent. According to 2022 highlights, the average CTC for the institute is INR 12 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 32 LPA.

The one drawback of TAPMI is the huge student intake. Each batch has over 400 students. The huge batch size often causes a dip in placements.

Which college should I choose, KJ Somaiya, the IMI Delhi, the Fore School of Management or the Lal Bahadur Shastri in Delhi to pursue an MBA?

DV
Dev Varma Posted On : March 15th, 2023
Studied at the FORE School of Management

When it comes to choosing between different institutes for an MBA, there are a lot of factors to consider beyond just ROI, fees, and CTC.

Firstly, think about the specialization you want to pursue. Each institute may have a different focus, such as IMI's dedicated HR course, FORE's marketing program, or LBS's finance specialization. Do your research and make sure you choose an institute that aligns with your career goals.

When considering placements, don't just focus on the CTC or the recruiting companies. Instead, look at the profile that is being offered. There is a big difference between an area manager role and a sales executive role, for example. Make sure the profile is something that interests you and aligns with your career aspirations.

Talking to alumni can also be a helpful way to gauge the exposure and opportunities offered by each institute. Reach out to alumni from different institutes to get a better understanding of what each one offers and which may be the best fit for you.

Ultimately, how you perform in the program will matter much more than which institute you choose. Put in the effort and work hard to make the most of your time in the program, and you will set yourself up for success in your future career.

How was your KJ Somaiya GD PI experience?

SK
Somya Khandelwal Posted On : March 31st, 2021
Studied at Delhi University (2020)

My brother appeared for his interview last year. His GD PI was at the Vidyavihar campus in Mumbai in the first week of March. He was a little nervous when he walked into the auditorium, where so many people were waiting for their turn.

GD Round: There was a group of 10 people for a case-based discussion. He and the other candidates went into a room where they were provided with a case sheet by the faculty. In addition, they had three minutes to read and think about the case. After which each person would be given 1 minute to conclude.

His group got the case where the question was asked whether the funds allocated to ISRO should be used for other more important purposes. There have been some statistics on the current percentage of GDP allocated to ISRO for their projects and other information in paragraph or two. The discussion had a mix of all that.

One person was shouting that ISRO should not be given any money while some other people, including my brother, were saying that it would help to improve the image of India as a developing nation in terms of technology and eventually attract FDI. Another person used the statistics given in the case very wisely. The rest of the people were chipping in their points to stay in the discussion.

There are few things you must keep in mind:

  • You don't have to raise your voice to make a powerful point.
  • You need to study the case carefully and underscore important information.
  • Quality is always better than quantity. You can make 2-3 points that are better than talking constantly about irrelevant things.
  • Use statistics if they are provided. It adds a lot of significance and contributes to a strong point.
  • It is imperative to be competent in English. It communicates your points very easily to the judge.
  • The conclusions are very important, as in one minute, you can make your point without anyone disturbing you. It will also help you to recover if you didn't perform well in the discussion.

PI Round:

After the GD he really wanted to do well in the PI because the discussion had not gone that well for him.

He knew that the first statement in most college interviews was 'Tell us about yourself.' So, he was already prepared to answer that question by including things that would give them clues as to the questions most favorable to him.

According to his expectations, for most of the interview, the 2-member panel asked him questions about the start-up and all. Other questions were based on general knowledge, such as "Who is Nandan Nilekani?" "What is he famous for?" and so on.

As a mechanical engineer, he was also prepared for the question of his choice to opt for the Financial Services program. The interview went exactly as he thought. He was satisfied with it, and he was pleased that he had most likely recovered the points he had lost in the GD.Being honest and smart made him crack his interview.

IB

B.Tech. Computer Engineering, K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (2018)

The placement scenario for K J Somaiya is pretty good. Big MNCs visit the campus but the probability of the students being selected or rejected depends on the student’s knowledge as well as their skill set.

The environment of K J Somaiya is very competitive. Students put in their best and work extremely hard to learn new things like programming languages, platforms, etc. It is because, by the end of the engineering degree, everybody lies at an equal level and is equally knowledgeable.

Bachelor of Engineering Computer Engineering, Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering (2018)

The placement in D.J. Sanghvi is decent with salary packages ranging from 3-12 Lakhs per annum. The points below give a brief overview of the run-through of the entire placement scenario in D.J. Sanghvi.

  • The placement session usually starts from the beginning of the 4th year. The first company visiting the campus is mostly Morgan Stanley, providing the highest salary package (14-16 LPA).
  • The entire placement sessions go on for a year, with an overall of about 35-40 companies, and a salary range of about 3-12 LPA offered to students.
  • J.P Morgan performs a 24-hour hackathons “Code for Good” and recruits students from it.
  • Some other names of MNCs visiting the campus just after Morgan Stanley include Directi, ZS associates, Indus Valley, etc. Several companies like EnY, LTI, Deloitte, Dollar Capital, etc provides appreciable salary packages.
  • Almost every student from Computer science and IT gets at least one job offer in placement. Mass recruiters like TCS and Infosys visit the campus, recruiting a bunch of students.

Which B-School is better between IMI Delhi, K J Somaiya and GIM Goa?

SD
Sheena Desai Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
Lives in Goa, India (2022–present)

Of the three B-schools, my favorite would be GIM mainly because of the high ROI it offers. Also, the community you spend time with becomes your family. Spending 2 years in your program makes you closer to your juniors, seniors, faculty, and your own batchmates. There is tremendous harmony between everyone and you develop a sense of community while spending time with them. You don’t necessarily have to socialize to develop networks, the process is rather natural. You know almost everyone on campus and even some visiting alumni by their first name. You don’t have to necessarily be a part of a club or committee and can seek help or information from anyone at any anytime.

The faculty comprises professors with Ph.D. degrees and experience of more than 10 years. There is no compromise on the quality and GIM hires the best faculty.

GIM lays great emphasis on the holistic development of students by encouraging activities like movies, games, treks, outings, and extracurricular activities. This does not mean you can compromise in your academics. You have to equally focus on completing your assignments, projects, and other class readings. Balancing your academics with extracurricular activities is tough initially but once you get adapted to it, it will make your corporate life better in the long run. You will focus more than just your work and spend some time on extracurriculars also.

Goa Institute of Management is a good choice only if you are seeking more than just a degree. If you are seeking a rich learning experience and a community that will stay throughout your life, then this is the best choice for you.
