Which is preferable for CS, CSE, and IT, IIITDM-Kancheepuram, IIIT Sri City, or IIIT Guwahati?
IIITDM Kancheepuram is an institute of national importance and it has an advantage over the other two institutes as both the institutes are IIITGs in PPP Mode. The bill to declare PPP mode as institutes of national importance is still pending in parliament.

IIIT Guwahati:
The institute started in the year 2013 and has a strong CS department with a good number of experienced faculties.
- Prof Gautam Barua who is the director of the CS department at IIIT Guwahati was also the director of IIT Guwahati from 2003-13. With his immense experience, he aims to build the department strong.
- Coming on to the curriculum of CSE/IT, it is well designed to suit the growing need of the industry. The intent here is to complete all the core subjects in the first 6 semesters so that students can choose the type of industry they want to get into. Like in the 4th semester, there is a subject called Computer Network which is generally a subject of 5/6th semester in other institutes.
- In the CS department, IIIT Guwahati has come up with the Ph.D. program as well.
- There are many advantages to join IIIT Guwahati but only a single disadvantage is there i.e. Location. But if you love to travel and nature, Guwahati is a place for you.
IIIT Sri City:
- The number of faculties at IIIT Sri City is nearly half as compared to IIIT Guwahati.
- They also have MS and Ph.D. programs which indicates that they are also very active with regard to research.
- They are being mentored by Prof. UB Desai who is also the director of IIT Hyderabad and a pioneer in System and Network Research in India.
Both the colleges have their advantages and disadvantages. You have to analyze which is better for you to pursue B.Tech in CSE/IT as per your parameters. Good luck.
How did IIM Visakhapatnam do better at placements than some of the second generation IIMs?
IIM Visakhapatnam had a lot of help from IIM Bangalore for placements in the first few batches. A pool summer placement process was organized at Bangalore for the first three batches. This resulted in students interning at companies like Cloudtail and Directi. If you are lucky, you will find colleagues from colleges like IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, XLRI, and FMS.
The internship is a great opportunity for you and it will pose a strong point in job interviews. Moreover, my advice to you would be to network as much as possible. You will probably earn a 6 figure monthly stipend during the summer internship. Eventually, as students began to perform well and some of them at par with the top three IIMS (ABC), PPOs began loyally recruiting students from the college.
These job profiles are the same as those offered at IIM Bangalore. An example of this would be that of Bosch. It offers a Junior Manager’s program available only to premier campuses like IIM Bangalore, IIFT Delhi, etc. as seen on LinkedIn. It even has an international visit to Germany included.
Another major reason would be that this industry prefers students who have previously done summer internships. This PPO percentage was higher for the first two batches from IIM Visakhapatnam since most of the students were taught by IIM Bangalore professors.
Here are some other statistics for placements at IIM Visakhapatnam:
- Many IIM V students are at the consultant level at the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
- The batch size of the first two years was only 50.
- Since most of the students were taught by IIM B faculty, they have more knowledge and experience.
- 18% of the students secured a PPO here, which is higher than any other second-generation IIM.
All these factors combined above have now ensured that IIM Visakhapatnam does better in placements than any other second-generation IIM. Currently, the highest CTC stands at INR 27 LPA and a minimum at INR 10 LPA. Companies like Yes Bank, Amul, and Crompton Greaves regularly visit the institute for placements.
What are the facilities provided by Kirori Mal College Hostel?
It is one of the better hostels offered by any DU-affiliated college. The various facilities offered to the students at Kirori Mal College’s hostel include:
- A common room has table tennis and a TV.
- An average-sized study room.
- Freshwater with 3 water coolers. Sanitation depends on you.
- The food offered is good and affordable.
- A big sports ground.

Which is better, a CSE at IIIT Delhi or an MCE at DTU?
As a third year student of MCE at DTU, I can only tell you about my college and branch-
- The curriculum of MCE is a mixture of Mathematics, Computer Science and Finance.
- This branch will equip you for a career in three fields.
- The focus is more on Mathematics, but CS is an important part.
- MCE offers good placements. Graduates get job offers from top brands like Amazon, Flipkart, etc. MCE gives competition to well-established branches like CoE, IT, SE, etc. in this aspect.
- DTU is a well-recognized institution with a strong alumni network. More than 250 companies visit the campus every year during the placement season.
- Mathematics faculty is top-notch, while CS faculty is average.
If you want to focus solely on programming, choose CSE at IIIT Delhi. MCE offers programming knowledge alongside advanced Mathematical studies. It will help you design and understand really complex solutions.

How is IIM Ranchi MBA finance?
Since you are curious about finance only, I will try to answer your question based on the Finance domain only. To elaborate let’s consider the following merits and demerits
Merits
- Placements: IIM Ranchi is a new IIM so you cannot get front-end IB roles right off the bat. Yet it offers many roles that can be your stepping stones into the finance world. It does not offer front roles in IB, PE, VC, and bulge bracket equity research. One cannot expect such roles in the near future. But the fact is all these roles are available at the top IIMs only to the cream students. So if your profile is the same, changing the institute won’t matter. Many reputed Investment Banks offer middle office roles like Private credit, Debt capital firms, and Outsourced financial research firms. These roles can kick start your career in finance if not grant you a high-paying job.
- Faculty: The finance faculty is just average here and only those who are really motivated and determined can survive. Some even quit finance in the second year due to the same reason. The teaching quality is diverse and some may find it not at par with their expectations.
- Crowd: Most of the students opt for Finance as one of their majors in the second year. Additionally, a team even won the CFA RC India competition and represented India in the Asia Pacific finals. So the crowd is diverse and of premium quality.
- CFA: The CFA Certification aims at enhancing finance knowledge and placements at large. The class lectures combined with the theoretical knowledge of CFA will make it very easy for you to understand Finance in depth.
Demerits:
- Lack of major front-end role opportunities
- Tools like Bloomerang are not much common in the curriculum
- The relatively new courses in Finance like PE/VC, alternative investments, REITs, SPACs, IPO financing, and M&A are not given enough focus.
- The teaching faculty needs to be improved
All in all I think IIM Ranchi is a decent choice for Finance and in the years to come will have improved a lot.
How would people compare a 4 year B.Tech in CSE vs a 5 year B.Tech+M.Tech (dual-degree) in CS at NIT-Rourkela?
There are common misconceptions and doubts in the minds of students and their parents regarding dual degree programs. People think that low rankers generally opt for a dual degree and placements are not good for DD programs.There is a common fear that dual degree students are neglected by the administration. It is believed to be better to opt for your M.Tech from an IIT. Most people end up choosing B.Tech instead of a dual degree, even if NIT Rourkela or some other top NIT/ IIT is offering this program.
However, here are some facts to erase these doubts and fears from your mind regarding a dual degree from NIT Rourkela, or any other institution-
- Even as a Ph.D./M.Tech student, you will have plenty of placement opportunities. You might even get a better offer than a B.Tech candidate if you possess a better skill set.
- Getting into an IIT for M.Tech is quite tough because clearing GATE/GRE with a good rank is a challenging task.
- An integrated course will save you a year which you can use to develop your managerial or other skills/ to acquire experience. The IIT tag is important, however, with the right skill set and plenty of experience at your back, people won’t really bother about your college tag.
- Well-established IITs and R&D firms prefer dual degree holders.
Thus, you should definitely go for a dual degree at NIT Rourkela instead of harboring useless doubts and fears about your choice.
Which is better for MBA - Chandigarh University or CGC Landran?
