How is Campus life at IGIT sarang? And what is the best branch (in terms of teaching standards)?

RS
Rupali Samal Posted On : March 5th, 2021

The campus life of IGIT Sarang is not that great. So, it is better to keep the standards low. The campus is around 379 acres. The residential part of the campus is covered by 179 acres, situated nearby the Brahmani river. The additional 200 acres are left unused for future expansion projects. The experience of students in the initial years is discussed below.

  • In the initial years, the students find the campus dull and complain about it. After a year, with the increasing familiarity, they start loving it. There are strict rules and time deadlines for girls. After 7 pm, girls are not allowed to roam around. They should be within the hostel.
  • Students spend most of the time at chowk, food courts, canteen or cafeteria. These are the hot-spots to hang out with friends and relax.
  • Students get bored of campus within a couple of months. The reason is that the campus is isolated from the outside world. Everyone from IGIT is living within a radius of 5 km.
  • The campus life revolves around friends. They are the best companions and even politics.
  • Computer science is the best branch here. It interestingly organizes its branch events

Life in IGIT Sarang is not easy, yet it is fun.

What is your review of Jiwaji University Gwalior?

SM
Saurav Mishra Posted On : October 25th, 2021
studied B.Sc Computer Science at Jiwaji University

I know a few people from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. Based on the reviews I got from them, I will advise against choosing this institute.

  • The management and administration are not that great.
  • They declare results and examination notifications quite late.
  • The management hardly listens to the worries of students.
  • The facilities offered for different departments are not good.
  • It also doesn’t offer any placement opportunities to students.

Considering all these factors, it will be best if you choose other universities for your degree.

Is NIT Raipur worth joining?

PG
Prity Gupta Posted On : March 19th, 2021
NITian

Yes, NIT Raipur is definitely worth joining, being an institute of national importance. There are several factors supporting the statement, and some of them are listed below.

  • NIT Raipur is presently ranked 67th in NIRF ’20 rankings among more than 10,000 engineering colleges in India.
  • Over the years, NIT Raipur is improving its standard and facilities, along with its rankings.
  • Among all 31 NITs, NIT Raipur is ranked 17th all over India, and 12th as per the records in placement and opportunities.
  • Several MNCs like Amazon, UHG, Vedanta, Samsung, Deloitte, RIL, etc visit the campus for placement. Even PSUs like Coal India Limited recruit students from NIT Raipur.
  • There are several fields to explore in NIT Raipur, other than studies. The institute organizes 3 major fests every year. The Entrepreneurship Cell organizes an E-summit, which is similar to other events in the institute.
  • Though the campus of NIT Raipur is smaller compared to other NITs, a new campus is under construction, which is much larger in size, and with more amenities.

Considering all the above factors, NIT Raipur is definitely a good choice for students in engineering.

Which is the best for a CS: IIITD, NSIT or MNNIT Allahabad?

SK
Sanjana Kapoor Posted On : November 30th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Colleges like NSUT and MNNIT Allahabad have a legacy built over many years. IIIT Delhi will take some time to catch up to the reputation of these colleges.

Regardless, I have tried to rank the three on several parameters, for their CS (CoE) program-

  • Coding Culture- NSUT has the best coding culture, followed by MNNIT.
  • Curriculum- IIITD has the best curriculum, followed by MNNIT.
  • Research and Higher Studies- IIITD offers the best research prospects, followed by NSUT.
  • Fests and Clubs- NSUT offers the best fests and clubs, followed by IIITD.
  • Infrastructure and facilities- NSUT has the best infrastructure among the three, while MNNIT lags far behind the other two.
  • Peer performance- NSUT has the best peer performance, followed by IIITD.
  • Faculty-IIITD has the best faculty, while MNNIT and NSUT are at par.
  • Alumni Network- MNNIT has a slightly better alumni network than NSUT, while IIITD lags far behind the other two.

Regardless of whichever college you choose for your CS (CoE), your success will come from your own efforts. By studying diligently and polishing your skills, you will land a well paying job, regardless of your graduation college.

If IIIT Allahabad offers such high salaries, why is its cutoff rank so high, about 8500, compared to MNIT and many NITs? Why don't students opt for IIIT Allahabad rather than the NITs?

SA
Subham Agarwal Posted On : October 16th, 2023
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad

Many engineering aspirants and their parents don’t know anything about IIIT Allahabad. They are unsure whether it is a government or private college, whether good brands visit the campus, and whether it is anything like the IITs/NITs.

NITs like Surat, Bhopal, Kurukshetra, and colleges like VIT Vellore are given much more acceptance simply because they are NITs or well known brands. Students decide their preferred colleges through a 1-2 month research, or the advice of their relatives/friends.

IIITA offers B.Tech IT, which is considered inferior to CS, due to unknown reasons. Many rankings place IIITA lower to the lesser known state engineering colleges. This is another reason why people are reluctant in choosing IIIT Allahabad.

Only engineering students have a good knowledge of the opportunities available at IIITA. As a student of this college, I can assure you that it is one of the best places with great placements and an amazing coding culture.

At present, IIIT Allahabad has started gaining its well-deserved reputation, and its cutoffs have become equivalent to institutes like MNIT or MNNIT.

How is the life of a first year student at KMC Manipal, and what are some of the things one should be aware of there?

SK
Sanjana Kapoor Posted On : September 28th, 2023
VMC Manipal

The life of a first-year student at KMC Manipal is quite hectic but it teaches you to maintain a healthy balance between studies and other co-curriculars. You will spend the initial days socializing yourself with your batchmates and adjusting yourself to the surroundings. You will familiarize yourself with the pedagogy and also identify the study methods that suit you. Students hang out with their like-minded people. and also pursue their nonacademic interests. Being your first time away from home, you might face some issues adjusting initially so here are some things you should always keep in your mind here

  • Always carry an umbrella because it’s raining all the time here.
  • Take care of your physical and mental health
  • Look for an activity that makes you happy, it can be as simple as taking walks around the campus partying, or anything else.
  • Make sure you priories academics over everything because in the end, only that matters

Hope this helps you!

Which is a better option: IIIT Hyderabad (M.Tech CSE) or BITS Pilani (M.E Software Systems)? Why?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : August 1st, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

In my opinion, M.Tech in CSE from IIIT Hyderabad is way better than the M.E. Software System from BITS Pilani. Honestly, both the colleges are good so my comparison is only on the basis of the courses. Consider the following points of comparison

  • ME in the Software System curriculum mostly comprises software engineering or IT subjects and has little connection with the actual CSE curriculum. Whereas, if you take CSE, you can opt for the subjects of your choice from the second year and can take subjects directly related to CSE.
  • BITS Pilani has a better brand value and enjoys more global recognition than IIIT Hyderabad thereby making it easy to pursue Ph.D. from a foreign university.
  • M.E. in Software Systems limits the scope of a Ph.D. with a good research area in CSE.

In the end, I will say both IIIT Hyderabad and BITS are excellent institutes for CSE education and offer equally good placements. So priority should be given to the course and not the college!

Why should anyone join IIFM Bhopal for PGDFM program?

KS
Krishna Shrivastava Posted On : July 15th, 2021
PGDFM Environmentalism, Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal (2018)

IIFM Bhopal is an excellent institute for forest management courses, providing a degree that offers much more than knowledge of general management. You will learn to apply management practices in development sectors.

The forest management course usually deals with the application of management practices in the forest development sector, which has its unique approach. MBA pass-outs from IIFM work as managers in several sectors, taking difficult decisions like the banning and control of falling of trees, framing a criminal offense for the poaching of wildlife, etc.

Let’s consider a real-life scenario, if an old villager is accused of killing a tiger, he/she will be punished for 7 years with a monetary fine in the court of law. It will be a matter of political, ethical, legal, and economic approach for a general management student, resulting in the villager being punished. But, for an MBA in forest management, he/she will also consider the livelihood side of the villager, his conditions of living, and the circumstances that led to the crime. This is the major difference in approach.

The PGDFM program in IIFM Bhopal has its characteristics and approach of study, which is unique, and that makes it a decent choice for students interested in the field.

Is ECE at SVNIT Surat that bad?

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : January 6th, 2024
Lives in Ahmedabad

ECE is not an ideal department for someone who doesn’t know about the challenges that are present in Engineering. It is not the best department for learning and self discovery. The teaching is not good in the department.

But for someone with a passion for this branch, it is fair enough to choose ECE over other fields. Moreover, SVNIT carries the NIT tag, which is of great value. But without any particular interest or passion for this field, it is difficult to get through ECE at SVNIT.

The faculty is not supportive and Engineering is tiring in itself. Thus, I would recommend you choose B.Tech ECE at SVNIT only if you have a keen interest in this field.
