What can I do if I was not able to get a good BE degree of my choice after taking an MSc in BITS Pilani?

NM
Nandlal Mandel Posted On : July 29th, 2021
Masters in Economics, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

One of my friends joined Civil Engineering in the 2nd year but he dropped out of it. Economics begins making sense when you start taking up electives of your choice. However, if you have gotten any engineering branch, then do not drop out. The current job scenario in the Indian market is pathetic and you must make it big.

In your final year, CDC's M.Sc will be beneficial. You can also pick your electives as my friend did in finance and entrepreneurship and soon got an internship at an investment bank. He didn't stop there and further explored Eco-Fin by doing a thesis.

The perks of not dropping out are as follows:

  • You will get opportunities to take up both an internship and a thesis and that's where you will utilize your research skills and also understand the ins and outs of the corporate world.
  • Your perspective will change and it will expand and develop.
  • If you could develop different passions during this period, it'll make you a valuable asset to companies.

BITS will give you immense flexibility to develop yourself. You're not bound by your choices because you can make many other, any other. Your peers will be a group of intellectuals who want to do something in life and they'll support you throughout this time.

How's ECE at SVNIT Surat?

AS
Amit Sharma Posted On : January 8th, 2024
Studied at NIT Surat

I am a fresher student of B.Tech ECE at SVNIT. But I will try to answer this question to the best of my knowledge.

At other engineering colleges, ECE is the second most preferred branch after CSE/ IT. But at SVNIT, Mechanical is the second most preferred branch after CSE, followed by Electrical and ECE. It is not that the ECE of SVNIT is subpar, rather the Mechanical of this college is way ahead.

Mechanical has a top notch faculty, a huge class strength, core recruiters, and it is one of the oldest branches of this college. The ECE faculty teaches well, but not as good as other core branch faculties. The B.Tech ECE students have to work a lot to score above 9 CGPA. The fests and clubs are almost the same for all branches. ECE is vast and interesting. It covers not just electronics and communication, but also programming and electrical to a certain extent.

The placements are best for CSE, followed by Mechanical due to the presence of core companies near Surat. No big core companies come to the ECE department for placements, but still, the placements are average. Moreover, there’s always an option of off campus placements.

This is all about the ECE branch at SVNIT. It is a decent branch of this college.

B.Math from Indian Statistical Institute (2021)

A typical day at ISI Kolkata looks something like the following.

  • Most students usually wake up around 8 am, have breakfast, and get ready for classes around 9:45 am.
  • Classes start at 10:05 am. There’s a lunch break from 12:55 pm to 2:15 pm. Classes resume after the lunch break.
  • After classes students usually come back to hostels and unwind.

Being a research institute, the academic pressure is quite high. Most students usually stay up till 3 am, to keep up with the course work. The campus doesn’t have many social activities going on. But ISI Kolkata has decent sports facilities.

What is your opinion about studying at Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai?

SP
Shivam Patnayak Posted On : April 24th, 2021
Bachelor of engineering Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu (2019)

I have one of my cousins studying at Madras Institute of Technology. So here, is what it feels like to be at MIT.

You are going to learn a lot from MIT and gain experience about how to be social and develop relations. The classes don’t run from morning to evening. You will have a lot of free time to explore the campus. You can either go and watch movies, hang out with friends, join cultural activities, etc. For class attendance, if you have above 65% attendance then it will also work.

  • Syllabus: MIT teaches an old syllabus, which is not of use in the practical world. You can read books and attend OCW lectures to gain knowledge.
  • Faculty: MIT faculty is not very promising. They don’t elaborate on their notes, neither give an answer to a student's question.
  • Extra-Curricular Activities: MIT first-year students have to join NCC, NSO, YRC. All the coaches and mentors will show and teach you the toughest lesson of your life.
  • Activities: You can also get involved in team projects or co-curricular activities, where you will learn about team management, leadership, peer relationship, stress management, etc. You also get to know your college mates. And might become friends with someone.
  • Internships: You must make sure that you learn something out of these internships. Otherwise, it will not be fruitful in your learning. Most of the time, time spent during these internships are better than doing the internship itself.
  • Projects: MIT projects are not very challenging. Even if you make a basic quadcopter, they will make you believe it is the best you can do. Hence, MIT academic quality detonated by passing time.

Therefore, MIT will make you only pass the college. You are not allowed to ask questions or take any new project in hand. It may be good for you if you are adamant to work hard.

How is the hostel life in Maulana Azad Medical College?

AB
Aditya Bajaj, Posted On : November 22nd, 2021
MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College (2022)

Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) has 2 boys hostels for undergraduate students.

Old boys Hostel (OBH):

  • The OBH is a very social place.
  • You will have many friends who will act as your guides and advisors.
  • There is a newly constructed reading room, a basketball court, a badminton court and a 24 hour canteen inside the hostel premises.
  • The only flaw about this is its cleanliness.
  • The rooms are small and the bathrooms are not well maintained at all.
  • But the cleanliness also depends on the students residing. If they try to maintain  their bit of cleanliness, it could still work out.

New Boys Hostel (NBH):

  • The NBH, unlike the OBH, is a quiet place.
  • All the rooms are for a single occupant.
  • There is a reading room and a canteen in the hostel.
  • The canteen closes down around 11PM and opens in the morning around 7AM.
  • The rooms are more spacious and have balconies.
  • This hostel is comparatively cleaner.

Therefore, OBH is a more social place where you get to enjoy as well as study. NBH is a bit more isolated and you have your own peace of mind.
